When capturing video @ 720x480 through WinTV V'Dub displays a data rate of 6,800-7,000KB/s using the Huffyuv codec. Now, when I do my TMPEGnc encode to DVD specs is setting the bitrate to anything over 7,000KB/s wasteful, maybe even harmful (i.e. introducing artifacts)?
Appreciate any and all input.

When you're capturing with huffuv, the bitrate is ~ 7000 kbytes/sec = 8 x 7000 kbits/s = 56 000 bits/s, so you're compressing your capture A LOT even if you're using th maximum bitrate of DVD specs, that is CBR 9800 kbits/s.
Think about it: an hour of captured huffuv material is about 30 GB, an hour of DVD material encoded with maximum bitrate is a bit over 4 GB -
Ahhh, great, thanks for making that subject a good bit more clear for me. I wasn't taking into account the "lossless" compression factor. And yes, the file size disparity was sittin' right on the tip of my nose but still I failed to see it! :-0
