    buying DVD's and CD's online gets you an instant 17.5% reduction (you avoid paying V.A.T.) if you buy from places such as www.play.com or www.cd-wow.co.uk or the even cheaper (by a few pence) www1.cd-wow.com.hk

    Well, I as an non-resident can claim VAT when I go back to India. Are you, the residents in UK, eligible for NO VAT? In US, they can save the Sales Tax (usually from 5% to 7.5%), if buying from the online stores (on most commodities).

    Yes, in the case of play.com they get round it by being based in Jersey

    You can only escape this if you don't live in a state where the online company/ their bank is located. BTW, sales tax in Virginia is 4.5% and in another east coast state it's 0 and another one's at 8%.
