I asked Craig Tucker something in a PM and he said something along the lines of having a good attitude and such...
...now go back to the other post tenders and tell me!

Off the top of my head there are four moderators who aren't from Europe or the states; Vitualis (Australian), Offline(Australian), Sefy(Israel) and me (Australian).who moderates while europe and the states sleep....???
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/groupcp.php?g=23426who is moderating right now???
Thats a list of all the current moderators (although some no longer are here).
Their isn't a specific prerequisite as such but it would help if you have a good attitude and know the rules (and how they apply) of the site. As for the time it takes to become one it also varies. I became a mod after something like 2 years whilst others have become one in a year or less.what prequistes does one need to be a moderator?? how much time does it take???
It also depends if Baldrick is looking for new moderators or not, in my case (and I think Galactica's) we were brought in because of older moderators not visiting the site anymore and also because of Vitualis going on holidays. -
I thought it was because Bldrick offered moderator status to anyone who wrote a guide that week, no?Originally Posted by pacmania_2001

Though in the US I often moderate at night because I work a deep night tech support job. The hours are by choice, there is less work at that time and I've always been a bit of a night person.who moderates while europe and the states sleep....???
So between 9:30pm CST and 8:30am CST I'm usually off and on the board.
My lightest days for the board are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights as those are my days off, but I'm usually still on at SOME Point, kinda like now.
I was given Mod status after writing a Faq for one of the section. (which likely needs updating now) At the time I was just made a Mod in that specific section, but Baldrick offered me the entire board which I turned down, I wanted to make sure that the way things ran around here was for me. It was so later he made my a full mod.I thought it was because Bldrick offered moderator status to anyone who wrote a guide that week, no?
How to become a mod? No clue, but if you post alot of help people and have a good attitude then I think it will come alot faster, though there is never a promise that it will come.
Often I pretend not to like the job, but I do. Just remember its a mixed reaction. Whenver something annoying is happening on the board, you can no longer just ignore it. If a thread no longer interest you, then you still have to keep at least a partial eye on it. And most users fight back against your every warning reguardless of how clearly they are breaking the rules. -
I have never written anything for the web site, but have posted quite a lot in various forums.Originally Posted by Will Hay

Whenever I visit the site (most days), I am both a regular user and a Mod. Being a mod just adds some extra responsibility and 'powers' (for want of a better word), such as the abilities to lock threads etc. It doesn't really require much special attention, though I do take more notice of some threads that wouldn't normally interest me, if they seem to be getting a bit hot! -
I think they should be voted in by the members. Based on wit and humor I cast my vote for Will Hay, I love reading some of his posts.

Having been a mod on a (at the time) major board, I can tell you it's a thankless job. The number of PM's from whiners can be overwhelming! Then there are moderator politics and differences of opinions that can reduce the effectiveness of the system.
Ultimately this site comes down to Baldric and how he handles the Moderators. Without the benefit of the private forums, I can only see the the results, and they seem to be working. I've never seen a site introduce new ideas so quickly

I fear I may not be such the model member you need to be to be offered such a job, although who knows, if I ever did it may change me into a different person - which nobody would like, right?
I'm sure I wouldn't post half as much (of the) content I do now

The number one deciding factor is need. If the site needs more mods, then Baldrick goes looking for more mods. There is no time requirement. I was made a mod after a little less than 4 months. I had roughly 300 posts at the time, but there was a need for more help in the Mac forum. So Baldrick posted "Is anyone interested in being a mod" and I said yes. So I pm'ed him with why I would do a good job. Once he stopped laughing he felt sorry for me and gave the the position.
-
oh, are we supposed to stop feeling sorry for you at some point......? oops!

No no. I still accept pity, but not American Express.Originally Posted by flaninacupboard

Correct, though in my case it was because there were only 2 moderators for the Mac forum, TGPO and Major. Major has been given control over the entire FFMPEGX forums and had little time to moderate the mac forum. TGPO was mostly seen making polls or elsewhere (hahaha just kidding) wanted some help and recommended me. As such, here I am today.Originally Posted by pacmania_2001

Wow,
All the mods are spending their time here.
Would one of you allow me to send a post that you locked the thread on, before I could click Submit, because I am such a slow typist?
I have PM'd Flaystus, but he may be busy-off for the night.
Should I just start a new thread? -

I should have said North America. -
I didn't know Sefy was a mod.
The only times I've seen his posts was when someone was in dire need of help.
Have to look for blue text next time. -
Please don't vote for Willhay, he voted Churchhill out of office in the late 40's. This would set a trend on this site. Just kidding, trying to have a good attitude. By the way Willhay do you live in one of those train crossing houses like in that British KIds Show about the little Blue Engine?

I think Will would make a good moderator. He seems to have a good head on his sholders.....his sons :P

No Willhay not an enemy. I served in the UK for 5 years and enjoyed my stay. Just hated that dam M.O.T. tax as well as the TV tax. I passed through many of your towns that had railway stations and can recall that they each must of had a wonderful history. Take care friend. I live 10 miles south of the Jesse James home. Funny huh?

My username is based on a wonderful comic actor of the 1930's and 40's (even though I'm only 32) who starred in a film (among many others) called Oh Mr porter!, a great film but will no doubt not appeal to many!

No, I have seen the film and liked it. You no doubt remember me asking whether it was available on DVD? And you did give me the url.Originally Posted by Will Hay
