  1. Hi guys,

I receently put out a topic of why it was taking such a long time to decrypt a DVD and the answer was basically cause my drive only supports a max speed of 2x data transfer. So i have learnt to live with that for the moment, taking an hour+ to decrpyt (no compression).

After i have decrypted to my HDD i then use DVD2One to "shrink" the files to fit on a DVD-R. I create the file son my HDD again, this then also takes an hour+. I don't know if this is normal because of the compression going on and also because i'm running Win98, but should it take that long? After all it is HDD --> HDD.

Then I use Nero 6 to burn the DVD, setting it to the highest speed, 4x. Nero then takes 50 minutes to burn a full DVD! Now i know this can't be right as it should only take 15 minutes to do. Can anybody shed some light?

    Thanks

sounds like it's burning at 1x. Is Pioneer picky about the media you use?

I have a Sony DRU 500AX, 4x burner. I have yet to find media that burns consistently at 4x that falls within my price range, so I've resigned myself to burning at 2x until media prices drop some more.

Check the DVD Writers section and see what other posters have written about your drive - there may be some tips on reliable media.

  3. Thanks House,

I've just been discussing it in another topic and someone suggested it might be because it's a Slave to another drive and it might be set to PIO not DMA.
Then again it might be the media, but i'll be trying it in 2x mode.

Any suggestions why DVD2One takes ages?

    Cheers in advance

no clue... for me it usually takes between 15-25 minutes, depending on how much data is on the disc.

Are you running only one hard drive? Maybe that's the culprit - I have 3 in my system, and I don't write to or from the system drive with DVD2One.
