Mods: I was kind of confused by each sub-forum's rules and I wasn't sure if it belonged here or not, apologies in advance if I was incorrect on where to post this.
Ok well I have some SVCD's and I finally felt bored and daring enough to attempt to convert one to a DVD-RW. Today I started with a One Disc movie and I followed two guides. One simply using IFOEdit 95, and one using SVCD2DVDMPG, I followed each guides directions to a T, and no dice on any standalone player really. The following are my results, burned on a Pioneer DVR-104 at 1X on an OptoDisc 2X/1X RW included with my drive:
Shinsonic 100A: Played back Audio, no Video
Toshiba SD1800: No audio, video was ok for 2/3rds of the screen, last 1/3rd on the right was cut off
Playstation 2 Version 7 US NTSC: Identical to Toshiba SD1800's results.
DVD-RW drive: Played back perfectly through WinDVD
Now I was under the impression that any VCD or SVCD file can be converted and then authored for a recordable DVD disc and played back on any DVD player, was I wrong? It seems odd that it plays back perfectly on my PC but on nothing else, and this is the only logical answer I can arrive at as I know my Toshiba and PS2 can't play SVCD's and my Shinsonic 100A sometimes has some issues/problems with SVCD playback. Would converting my SVCD's files to VCD compliant files, THEN converting again to DVD files make any sort of difference or should I just perhaps invest in (yet another...) DVD Player? Any feedback, or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Rick

Sounds like your players dont like RW disks.
Were you using the free version of svcd2dvdmpg or the plus version? Not bothered by small problems...

Heres the kicker though, the RW disc DOES work in the Toshiba and PS2 normally if I do a 1:1 copy of a movie to it....but the Shinsonic doesn't read it then...but it did with the SVCD converted and burnt to the DVD-RW. I really don't think its a media issue as two players produced identical results, and these 2 players normally play back most any burnt DVD I put into them. -

1. your player needs to play regular vcd or svcd
2. your player needs to play dvd+r, dvd-r, dvd+rw or dvd-rw
3. and your player needs to beable to play svcd-dvd or vcd-dvd cause vcd and svcd on dvd aren't exactly the same as vcd or dvd
