Hmmmm....
So I just burned A DVD of Two VHS movies.Finalized it.It plays in the DMR-E50.Put it in my other DVD player and I get a disc error- it won't play.Put it back in the E50 and start skipping around and notice there's chapters everywhere-some less than a minute apart.Over 100 chapters on a 3-hour DVD.I'm guessing that's why it won't play (i remember something about CD players not reading CD's with more than 99 tracks-similar problem maybe?)...This ever happen to anyone else here?
(ps it does play on my mac...)
By the way, I've had this thing less than 6 weeks and it's already been back to the factory. It just stopped reading, writing , or recognizing any discs after I had had it for only 3 weeks.I'm hoping this isn't another problem that's gonna require service.
I'm burning another to see if the problem repeats itself but it's gonna take a few hours.

I get the same problem. I have a home video I recorded to DVD-R and it has over 100 chapters. Total running time of video is 1:50 minutes.
This is not good.
Is this a BUG IN THE PANASONIC DMR-E50???? -

this hasn't happened to me since...
here's my guess as to why it's happening-
when you hit the finalize button it hesitates for second, if you wait it goes to finalize eventually... but this particular time i wasn't sure it was gonna finalize it so I hit finalize again (maybe twice more)...
i think that the machine got faked out and wrote the chapters several times- -
I had this problem on my E-60, but only when I made the tapes from the DV input. The one tape I made from RCA inputs had the 5 minutes chapter breaks. Also, not ALL the DV dubs had the problem - only some. Since you are now seeing it on the 50, it looks like it is not a DV related issue.
The thing about the chapters being created by hitting start/stop on the camcorder is only for the E60 with DV input recording to DVD-RAM (I was going to DVD-R). Also my start/stops in no way corresponded to the chapter breaks the panny created. It made them every 45-60 seconds.
I think this is a software issue with the new panny's. I have not contacted Panasonic yet, but probably will if it is a consistent problem when I start dubbing all my old 8 MM videos via RCA.
I had another post on this a while ago...I guess we will have to see if other people continue to hav the problem.
Is there any way to flash the ROM on set tops? -
The chapters is not a problem for me. Yeah they are there but not bothersome. My problem is that when I try to play my finalized dvd-r in another dvd player I get a slitght stutter (freeze) in the video and all those chapter marks. The audio is fine, just the video is a problem. I call Panasonic and they told to to try their "recomended" DVD-Rs (panasonic - of course or TDK). I have been using Memorex. Well i tried the TDK and guess what....SAME PROBLEM. The dvd-r is fine as long as i play it in the dmr e-50, but not on my other player. Any thoughts anyone???

What media are you using?
I only use Accus on my e30 & chapters are perfect everytime. -
Anyone else seeing this problem (too many chapters on a finalized disk). Still having it. I have an open issue with Panasonic, but no resolution. Chapter breaks can be as short as 45 seconds upto the correct 5 minutes.

This has happened mostly using a Sony 350 Digital 8 camera connected via Firewire. However, it also happened with a cannon mini DV and the same Sony connected using the analog inputs.
Doesn't matter which player I use for playback (although my Apex doesn't like the disks the panasonic creates). I have used the DMR, another panasonic dvd player and the computer. all show the same chapter breaks. -

I know for sure this isn't related to the feature that inserts chapter breaks when the record button is pressed on the camera. There are chapters every 45 seconds some of the DVD's, where the tape was shot straight through (press record and record for an hour).
Also, I believe this feature only applies to DVD-RAM according to the documentation (you also have to select it from the menu i believe). I am only using DVD-R.
