  1. I have just bought a new system including a dvd-writer NEC 1300a. I put it all togheter today and installed windows. Everything works fine exept that when i installed Nero 5.9 to test my NEC 1300 NERO cant recognize my writer. The only available writer according to NERO is "NERO IMAGE WRITER"... Why does'nt it show up? The drive can read from CD with no problems but i have NOT installed any special drivers for it(windows recognized it anyway)....According to NEC webpage you dont need any drivers to WINDOWS XP....but do I?

  2. Maybe try in windows device manager to un-install the burner then re-boot to let windows install the drive again and see if that works. Also I assume you set the jumper on the burner to the correct setting for the IDE channel you installed it into (primary or slave).

  5. I didn't need any special windows xp drivers for the NEC 1300A drive.
The only thing different that I'm doing is I'm using Nero 6. i wonder if the version of nero you're using doesn't know about the 1300A.

While it may be true that you need a more recent version of nero to detect your drive there is another more likely cause.

I've seen this many times before with upgraded hardware.

Nero releases 2 types of licenses

    1- Drive / manufacturer specific

    2- OEM

I will bet you have a serial number for a drive specific license. This means that you can only use it with the drive of a particular manufacturer.
Say for example that you originally purchased a cdr writer from LG and they provided a licensed copy of nero, if you try to use it with a NEC drive it will not work.

You can contact nero and ask for an oem release or a serial number that will work with your drive. When I bought my NEC 1300a it came with a new copy of the software and a new license key for that model.

The Nero software is identical regardless of version, it's not like they made multiple versions for each drive but it seems to detect your drive model and compares it with the license and will not work across manufaturer lines. The only exception is to have an oem license which is valid for all brands.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  8. I brought a nec1300a retail, and Nero 5.5.10 came with it. Nero does work with the nec drive, but you need at least 5.5.10 to make it work..

  9. From my experience, Nero doesn't seem to like this drive very much. I do most, if not a very large part of my burning from within DiscJuggler.

  10. Hi, i have the Sony DRU-510A and something similar happened with it, although i have more problems of my own, the thing is that Nero doesnt detect the drive if you have DLA enabled, to remove it, right-click the drive go to properties and then into dla, then disble it, and enable cd writing, that worked for me hope it does for you too

  12. my TDK 440n showed up as a cd-rom drive when I had it as a primary slave. When I moved it to be a secondary master, it showed up as a DVD-r. Maybe you should change it to be a master, the manual recommends it be a master too.
