  1. A few months ago I upgraded my Pioneer DVDR-103 (Compaq) to v.1.80. Everything went fine until I used a 4X DVDR I purchased initinally for my DVDR-105. Now the drive seems to be dead. It doesn't recognize neither CDs nor DVDRs.

It seems this is a common problem described in Pioneer's web site (description below) that can be solved by upgrading to v.1.90. Now the problems is that I am unable to upgrade to that version because the new upgrade doesn't recognize my previous upgrade. I keep getting the message MODEL NAME OF KERNEL PART IS NOT MATCHED.

Does anybody know how to solve this problem? How could I downgrade the drive to its original firmware (1.55), so I could make the v.190 firmware setup work???

    DESCRIPTION
Certain Pioneer DVD-R/RW drives may become inoperable after using 4X or 2X media in the drive (reading or writing). The issue occurs when using 4X DVD-R media and 2X DVD-RW media.

This occurs because of a firmware issue with the drives, not the 4X DVD-R or 2X DVD-RW media.

    SCOPE
This issue affects various Evo and Presario desktop computers and Evo workstations having the following drives installed:

    Pioneer DVD-103 - Compaq Assembly Number 236195-001

    Pioneer DVD-104 - Compaq Assembly Number 245196-001

    RESOLUTION
HP has written a SoftPaq that updates the drive firmware and resolves the issue. Download the SoftPaq and read the instructions carefully before proceeding.

"Firmware for Pioneer DVD-RW Drive Models DVR-103 and DVR-104," Version 1.90 for DVR-103 and Version 1.30 for DVR-104 is available online from HP (SoftPaq Number SP22418). Use the following links to download the SoftPaq and the SoftPaq Instructions.
