I am new to this conversion. I have a few questions if anyone would like to give me some thoughts...

    My System:
    Dell Inspiron 8000
    Pentium III 800
    256 MB RAM
    Windows XP
10 GB Hard Drive, 2 GB Free with already DVD Ripped

Ok, I'd like to port this DVD (Sphere, 135 minutes) to DivX. I am following the guide at http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/dvd2divx4_flask.html to encode the DivX using FlaskMPEG.

I am croping the back strips so the picture is 480 x 208... is this ok? Do I leave Frame Size at 480x480?

Using DivX 4.01, I started to encode last night... it projected it would take about 8 hours to complete the full movie.. Is that considered a long time?? Is there better (or faster) program to do this with??

    Thanx...

  2. i had sam problem all the guides suck for beginers because if you already have the programs their probably not set up right with the pluggins .i liked the articles at the doom9 site. download their packs .im using a dual p3 system with 1 gig of ram and i did my first movie with out putting any filters or whatever the basic was. it was 60 minutes and took 3 hours ,but i dont think the duel p3 work at their max it needs to be in the software.

  3. Muzicman82, set the resolution to 640x368 and crop it to 640x272, it will look alot better then 480x480. Divx4 is not as fast as Divx3 so 8 hours is about right. The fastest Divx encoder is MPEG2AVI but its a lot more complicated then FlaskMPEG.

  5. muzicman,

i would seriously suggest you use vidomi to encode your dvdrips to divx. its sooooo easy to do it with this program, you just load the .vob files, and it does the rest for you.

you can find it at http://www.vidomi.com

you can also use 2 pass vbr and it will give you results as good as nandub.

it is a really really great program.

  6. Muzicman82, go to Doom9.org, there's a great guide for MPEG2AVI.
