  1. Is there a program that can do this with out the final product looking junky? I used DVD WorkShop and if you capture in AVI then convert to MPEG it isn't a problem, but it gets shakey and smudgy when there is movement on the video if you skip the AVI step.

    ATI capture cards do a pretty good job.
    There's a PVR-250 that does it in hardware.
    <- Look in the capture cards section.
    Pure sofware solution depends on your card and computer

    I have tried it a few times with MF2 and the results were very good.

    Your Canopus is a DV device. Not sure if it can even do anything other than AVI.

  6. If you've got a fast enough PC several programs can do this. I use neoDVD and Virtual VCR. I capture my LD and VHS tapes to 352x480 MPEG2 and then just author. The quaility is slightly lower than if I captued uncompressed (or huffyuv) then encode with CCE. But it's much faster and the time vs. quaility trade off is within my acceptable limits.
