After successfully burning several vcd's i thought i would step it up to svcd and have been having headaches ever since. I am trying to rip a dvd using the guides on this site (smartripper--dvd2avi---tmpgenc). I use the svcd NTSC templates from tmpgenc. Everything seems to go fine and when i check the files on my computer they look great. I use nero to author and burn the svcd and when i watch it on my standalone (apex 500W with modchip) the picture is very shaky and one of the sides is cut off. The burned files seem to be fine because i can play the svcd on my computer. Does anyone have any ideas what i could be doing wrong? Could it be the player? Any help would be greatly appeciated.

I burn SVCD all the time, my source is from DVD, Laser Disc, Hi8mm using the Happuage PVR capture card to capture directly to MPEG2 then demux using TMPGE and use NERO to burn a SVCD. I have played and tested my SVCD's on APEX 500w, APEX 600a, APEX 660 with no problems. You might want to try your SVCD on another DVD just to rule out your DVD player. Make sure your SVCD is set at 2520 bitrate, 480x480, 29.97 frames.
Now never tried using rips, so it also could something in there also.
