Archos plays audio out of sync

Avi plays in sync on my Mac but not on the Archos which is frustrating.
Archos says that if audio is out of synch to make sure there is a 1:1 interleave in the AVI. They have a utility for Windows called "Mpeg4 Translator", a "Front end to manage translation of video files using Virtual Dub and DivX codec. Use this program to create MPEG4 Simple Profile video files to play on the Jukebox Multimedia." It works, the avi plays in sync afterwards. The intlerleave settings are in Virutal Dub but I haven't seen a way to check th einterleave on a Mac.

All of my DivX and Xvid files have this problem on the Archos. Anyone have a siilar experience and know how to fix the sync problem?

same problem here. i have xvid files that are great quality and done by people who know wht tey are doing. they all are out of sync on the archos. it seems like the audio starts out like 3 seconds to fast on every single one. the video looks great on the archos and even on the tv but out of sync. the recording feature of the archos from dvd,tv,vcr to archos is poor. blurry and pixelated. cus it only records in low res not what the archos supports. i bought this device so i can drag and drop my xvid files onto it and watch also to dump my compact flash cards directly to the archos on the road. you bought the 380 wow that like around 900 bux. i only got the 320 and its going back to the store. firmware updates will not fix this problem its within the chipset. im not going to reencode every file i have and besides ive read lots people that cant get it in sync even if they reencode. im taking it back to store and waiting for the Intel portable media center, or the Creative Zen portable media center or the one microsoft has. i read they play xvid and divx of any kind with no problems. i dont trust Archos now and their tech support tries to blow people off. CompUSA said that the archos has been returned to the store from almost everyone who bought it.

I had the same problem, but after many tries I seem to have found a solution. First you have to convert the DVD with DVDxDV (25$ at www.DVDxDV.com). What you get is a DV-Stream in PAL or NTSC. When you export this file with Quicktime-Setting by Dvix 5.1.1 (which has to be installed in your System) you get a file which plays in sync on your Mac and on your Archos Multimedia Jukebox (mine is a 20, with 352x288 maximum resolution, but this should also work on newer machines).

hi folks... ive owned a multimedia for a year now but never bothered to downloads div -x etc on to it..
ive now tried it and used the archos software.. i tried to convert dvds i had on my harddrive.. even avi files... i downloaded virtual dub etc .. and basically cant get the start button to highlight itself when i start up mpeg 4 translator.. what exactly does this program do.. can it take any file and covert it or is it purely avi files it converts?

what exzctly does the archos multmedia play? divx? or mpeg4.. im lost folks...

OK...first of all.....if you have the av320.....after a while the hard disk gets fragmented....get your self a High speed 2.0 usb port...and defrag the drive using window disk tools. I did this after a dvd I copied lost sync....re-copied it and it worked fine. Second of all ...If you have not downloaded the free DVX program...how the hell do you expect to use your virtual dub?...duhh!
Third of all....dont expect your av-320 to function properly if you use up all the disc space....dont be greedy...download maybe 3 or4 movies.....using up all your disc space is probably as bad as using up all your virtual memory on you computer. And last but not least...If u drop it.....you are going to have problems...just like with any toy you moron. Take care of it and it will take care of u!!!!!
