  1. I deal mainly with mpg1 video that is captured from my capture already in compliant bit rate etc. for vcd.
I have the worst luck when it comes to cutting out the commercials or just cutting in general. I hope cutting is the correct term. For cutting I mean highlighting a specific area of the video file that I want and cutting it out to its own file.
All of the software that I use gives me trouble. TMPGenc gives me way out there results eg. I highlight 01:35.06 to 07:22.42 then save that section in a folder as pt1.mpg. The file that it spits out is only 4 some minutes long. Everytime is cut with tmpgenc the file file that it spits out is different in length but never the lenght that I specified.
Then I was using asf mpg avi wmv cutter which worked fine for 2 days then stopped working. When I hit split button it now just sits and does nothing.
Can someone let me know of a user friendly program that will cut mpg1 files easily and accurately?
I also tried running virtual dub but all these warnings come up that I have illegal codecs installed. The program itself to me is confusing and I didnt even see in there where you can highlight sections of video and cut it out as a new file. All the codecs that I installed are from this site so I cant figuew out why it would say that.
I just need a basic proggy that will let me edit out the commercials from captured mpg1 video.
    Help Please and Thanks Guys!
This is by far the best site around!!!!!

  2. Hi there,

Try MPG2VCR V3.1. This is a much better cut/join software compared to TMPGEnc. It supports mp1, mp2, and even VOB format with very precise frame to be cut.

  6. Hi,

Go to www.womble.com as they are the makers of MPEG2VCR. As for being blind: I think womble changed the name of their proggie around a few times. If you look for "MPEG-VCR" you'll find it in the Tools section on this site.

No experience with the prog myself, just thought I'd offer some help.

  7. Found it and it works great. They have a trial version which is not a full download called mgegvcr. Then they have a full version in the pay section called mpeg1vcr which only works for mpeg1. They have mpeg2vcr in the pay section as well which works for mpeg2 and mpeg1.
I downloaded and am running mpeg2vcr and it cuts any mpeg video I throw at it very well.
    Thanks guys.
