Freezes up huh...using vdub, check the file for bad frames. Here's a guide that shows how.

As for encoding...try extracting the audio and in tmpgenc, use it as a seprate file. I dont know if it will help...but its worth a shot.

  4. I cant open the wmv file in virtualdub because microsoft owns the patent so vdub isnt allowed to..

how do I extract the audio?

  5. Extract audio with tmpgenc. Close the tmpgenc wizard and use the audio tab on the main screen to browse to your wmv file.

    several options

get stoik video converter from the tools section
    or

open the file in goldwave and save the audio as a wav file

simply rename the . wmv to .asf and tmpgenc will open it

after renaming the file to .asf get an earlier version of vdub that handles asf, version 1.3 or 1.4 i think

I use TMPGEnc v2.59 Plus and I have no problems loading and encoding .wmv files. I think you got some problems with the files.
But tell me exactly what happens when you load the .wmv file in TMPGEnc is there an error message that you are getting.

  9. if you change the directshow multimedia priority in tmpgenc to 2 or 3 this should work tmpgenc doesn't like wmv files so rename the file extension to .asf and try it. when you get to the source range stage it'll appear that tmpgenc has frozen but if you leave it for a couple of minutes it'll unfrreze itself and let you continue. hope this helps

TMPGEnc 2.512 Plus has no problem loading the wmv/wma audio files and converting them to mp2. They do not need to have the asf extension.
Thank You & Have a great Day! :)

  11. I have no problems loading WMV files into TMPGEnc 2.59 and converting. Try installing the Microsoft WM9 Codecs. TMPGEnc would not work with WMV files for me until after I installed them.

BTW -- I don't know what luck others have had with STOIK and WMV conversion, but my results were AWFUL !!!

Same here! I only use TMPGenc now, or in conjunction with VFAPI and Virtualdub for converting to AVI.

    Off Topic:

It sure would be nice if TMGEnc would use a standard numbering system! 2.59 looks like it is newer then 2.512 but it is not...what the developer means by 2.59 is 2.509. ie 2.5(9), 2.5(10), 2.5(11) and 2.5(12).
Thank You & Have a great Day! :)
