That bloody ID3 tagging though is a right pain in the arse though.
I have managed to perfect the ID3 tagging. First there are 2 programs you need:

    Psychic MP3 and Dr. Tag.

Open Psychic MP3 and get the files tagged.
Open Dr. Tag, the original files are in ID3v1 format, so all you do in Dr. Tag is copy the ID3v1 to ID3v2.

The whole process takes about five minutes for about 20 albums.

Actually I think that the iPod is cross platform, it only depends on the link you're looking for. USB/Firewire. I got the firewire iPod and on the box it says it's Mac & PC

    I want an iPod

The old ones were cool enough, but the new ones blow me away! Thinner and lighter than the older ones and with no moving parts (all trackpad except for the "hold" switch). And the simplistic design that Apple puts to it is fantastic. AND it can act as a 30GB portable hard drive (if you get the expensive one). Yeah, if I had $500 to spare I'd have one in a heartbeat, but I'll be out of money for computer products until the winter when the race season is over (spend money on cars in the summer and computers in the winter).

The iPod is cross-platform, however the recharge via the FireWire port is only available on Macs. PC users will have to recharge using the little charger that it comes with. Apparently FakeWire doesn't have power enough on its bus for recharging an iPod. There may be some PC boards that can recharge it, such as the Vaio boards with onboard FireWire. Only way to find out is to try I guess. Works for me, I'll just leave the charger next to my PC and plug into the FireWire on my G4

I have firewire on all my PC's. That was a demand I made when buying them. I was an early adopter of firewire. I saw the vision, and it was good. Just took a little longer than expected to really arrive. I wish my Archos Pukebox was firewire, stinking thing takes 45 minutes for 2.1 GB of songs. Portable drive my ass. At least the iPod lives up to that claim, among others.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  9. Hmm....

I remember buying my 1st (and only) MP3 player 4 years ago

It was a Diamond Rio 500.

64MB, USB, 1 Smart Media expansion slot upto 64MB additional.

What did I pay for this marvel?

    $279.99 (yea, that's right)

It's still going strong and I love it...

Probably get an Ipod when the thing chokes though
THIS has been an RVL123 production...

That PC adapter for FireWire still makes you plug into the charger adapter so it isn't recharging it from the FakeWire jack on the PC. I don't want to be carrying all these extra power adapter cords around when we have the technology to prevent it. I don't know if Apple is to blame for not allowing the same FireWire access on PCs or if Microsoft is at fault for not wanting to pay the premiums of real FireWire from Apple. I guess they're both to blame. Apple would get quite a few more iPod sales if it were just as compatable with a PC as a Mac. At least a dozen of my PC-user friends would get one version of an iPod if it were completely PC compatable from the box.
