  1. ok, like i said in the tutorial, tscv is a bitch to setup, most people, correct me if im wrong, do use programs such as Tmpgenc as part of their encoding process.

the new versions of tscv, already have most of the components included with the donwload (all you are missing is tmpgenc)

once you use tscv a couple times, you can fly through it....i can make chapters in my vcd within a minute

i can make full motion menus in tscv in NO more than 5 minutes.

as soon as you get everything set, and you create your templates for the matrix, its sooo easy.

things such as virtual dub are not even needed in the new version...glitches have been fixed so that you can open your vfapi straight through....

also, im pretty sure that tscv does not even need a vfapi to search throught the movie (just makes it faster)

believe me, dont pull you hair out yet....just take a couple times to learn and its great

    lemme know

  2. Hi,
Ive followed your tutorial and everything seemed fine until i click on the make bin button. It then returned this error.

    Starting VCDxBuild process...

**ERROR: error while parsing command line - try --help

    VCDxBuild finished

Any ideas? The fuctionality looks really good on this program and i want to resolve this little technical issue so i can get some menus going! Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  4. Ok bit of background,

Im using windows 2000 (no doubt that is what is screwing it up!)

I followed the tutorial at http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/r/d/rdm186/guide1/.

I had some problems downloading the exact copies of the applications that you suggested so i tried the following:

    TSCV v0.82 beta Rel1
    vcdimager-0.7.9
    TMPGEnc-2.01.30.116

I created the pictures in photoshop 6 and then encoded them into mpgs using TMPGEnc. I then set up the menus and the chapter breaks etc etc in TSCV.

I click on create cue/bin and, well you know the rest!

  5. ok...thats all good....

however i made that tutorial for an older version so some of that you dont have to do....when you downloaded version 8...did it come with vcdimager 0.7.11 it should have unless you just downloaded the upgrade....

i posted this same question on another forum that i use...this is what someone wrote back

    {
Why don't you upgrade to vcdimager 0.7.11 to be full fresh software...

For your menu, create your bitmaps in photoshop with the correct resolution (704x480 for ntsc) and then simply add the bmp directly in the menu design tab when you pushed add a menu. TSCV will do the job of encoding the menu itself to still mpeg. It is working perfect for me. Don't name your bmp as menu1.bmp, menu2.bmp, menux.bmp cause tmpgenc will encode them all in the same still menu and it will not work (i got this problem myself)...

I am using win2k myself with TSCV...
    }

you can try that....i am unfamiliar with many of the error messages in the program so im not exactly sure what may be causing it

let me know if that stuff helps

sorry that it took all day to get back..but im a full time student still

    there ya go

get it today..i cant keep all this up on my server...i get warnings

    lemme know

  11. Hi,

Yeah you were right. I was using the wrong version. I downloaded the full version of TSCV (couldnt get it to download off http://www.ttool.de so i got it from http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/mpg/TSCV082r1.zip instead)

After a bit of trial and error i got it working nicely.

One last thing! I cant get it two create a menu bin/cue file in a VCD 1 format, it has to be VCD 2. Is this a bug or just something that im doing is incompatible? The error is "PBC not supported for current VCD type". Thats the lot.

Thanks for all the help, i would have probably just lost my rag and forgetten about it!

  12. ok, you dont want a vcd 1.0probably...they are old and outdated...just stick with vcd 2.0 thats probably what you have been making you just dont know

    thats my suggestion

  13. ok, im going to update this page for the newer versions probably sometime during the next week or so....

they have some more options and as soon as i can play around with them ill fix up the page

also, just off the top of my head, i noticed you no longer NEED vfapi to do your chapter work, but it makes the process quicker still...

also, i no longer have to framserve at all....everything works fine without it

    ill let you know

  14. Hy marty,

I've read your guide and I think it's very beautiful. I've created my first SVCD with menus and it's works bur there is a little problem!!! I've made my CD with chapter (every chapter is a different MPEG) and when I start a chapter from menu it start but loop endless again and again while I would see next chapter in order till the end of disc. Have you an idea about what I can do????
    Quote Quote
  15. hey, ok...i guess what you should do is this

dont use the page where you enter the chatper times at all

just go to the menu tab, add your menu, then add all of your mpg's

then single click on the menu, and in the column to the right indicate where you would like it to go for each selection (like you would for the chapters, but without chatpers)...

if you are puttin chapters into the mpg, you have to do this same thing for each mpg....

its kind of hard to explain...because i am not home right now so i dont have the program in front of me

let me know if this helps, if not, i can show you by whippin up some pictures for you (screenshots)

    lemme know

  16. ok marty,

thank you for your reply. I think that I've resolve this problem with tscv checking end of disc on chapter timeout tab. Thank a lot. Do you know why I see a pause between chapter and chapter (chapter is a MPEG file) even if I put 0 on wait??? Bye for now (sorry for my poor English but this is...)
    Quote Quote
  17. ok, as far as i understand, there will always be a pause between different mpg's. I dont believe there is anyway to fix that at this time....maybe on newer versions of tscv, there will be an option...

ill look into it, and let you know

  20. Hi

I have followed the intrustions (i think).. and everything went smoothly i burned it and all was ok..

I then put it into my DVD player (home one) and played it.. I Intro plays thats fine thenit goes to the first menu.. But it dont stop to wait for input it plays for 6 sec and then goes to the chapers menu that plays for 6 sec and then goes directly to the movie !!

Any ideas of what i am doing wrong ?

    thanks joey

  21. you can make adjustments under the timout section under the menu tab. you can tell it where you would like for it to time out to

you can mess around with those settings to see how you would like for your menus to function

you best bet, grab yourself a cd rw, encode a small portion of a movie, make some garbage menus, then just mess around....

    lemme know

  22. Hey Marty,

I would definately be interested in your updated guide. I've been doing the still menus for a while and its been working fine, but now I'd like to try the motion menus. I didn't want to mess with virutal dub and vfapi and that stuff, so now that its not required I'd really like to try it.

    Thanks,
    Chris

  25. Marty,
Man I'm going nuts.... I know you have said in several post but I continue to get an error that says "no driver installed" after I double click on my mpg line that was added to go to the chapters tab. Now this only occurs after I have used VFAPI?

    Whatta ya think?

Oh I have un installed and reinstalled a cou, no 3 times now.

btw...thanks for all of you work creating this guide.

  26. Just like to say thanks for your great guide but i do have one major problem.
I can set up tscv to give me a full working preview of the vcd / svcd but when it comes to actually creating the bin/cue file all goes well but i have tried various diffrent players on my pc and a standalone and the written disk is no good even when i tried demon tools none of the players liked the files

  27. ok...im at home...so this will be hard to answer all of your questions for the next 3 weeks, but ill try to keep up

    TREEDOG:

did you install the vfapi reader codec when you installed tmpgenc? if not, this is your problem. Tmpg and other programs will not be able to read these files without this codec...

    go to

    http://www.tmpgenc.com/e_main.html

and dload it there...install it, and see if the error goes away...

if not, go to the tools section of this page, and dload the krystal studios codec pack, then try that

    lemme know

    JBENNETT1974:

ok, for you my suggestion is this:

change your burning program...i think that if tscv doesnt give you any errors along the way, and you follow my guide the entire way, without any changes, then it has to be because of the way the bin was burned....my suggestion to you is to use fireburner...it has never failed for me

i also use nero...but many people have complained about it

    lemme know if it helps

  28. OK Marty,

I have to be screwing this up somhow. After installing and reinstalling vfapi reader codec with tmpgenc several times I'm still not getting a previw window in my chapters tab, and I continue to get the "no driver installed".

What could I be doing wrong. Is it that difficult to set up tscv?

I appreciate all and any help.

    JCH

  29. Sorry if this is not the right place to ask questions. But I'd really like Marty's opinion on an error message I got when I was following his instructions on how to create a VCD menu.

When I use TSCV's chapters tab (with "enable preview with media player on chapter-tab" checked in settings), I got an error message with header "Fehler", the dialog box says "ErrorCode: 0 MMSYSTEM006 There is no driver installed on your system."

That's frustrating cause I cannot continue with the process!

Can anyone help me with this? Sorry I am a newbie in VCD, DVD authoring so any help at all will be appreciated.

  30. ok...i contacted ttool...the program writer about you driver error

    this is what he said:

i this message tells you that mplayer cant find a driver for the
    mpeg-file.
Are these people sure they have installed a software dvd-player
    (necessary for mpeg2 playback) ?
If there is not mpeg2 driver vfapi will not work, too.
Please give me more infos about their system (or your system).
The only things i can tell you are:
    -Install software dvd-player
    -Disable VirtualDub AviProxy
    -Install TMPGEnc VFAPI
    -Install VFAPIReader Codec
-Install the 2 ligos-codecs that are on my download page, named "TSCV
    MenuActivator" or somthing like that
Not all of these are needed. Depends on the system.
I got every system to work yet (Tested on Win85, Win89, WinME, Win2000,
    WinXP).

i didnt think about the software dvd player...that does make sense...try to follow some of this stuff

if it works great...if you run into trouble...lemme know
