Thanks for the wonderfull guide, clear and easy to use.
I did evrything according to Marty's guide but when I try to create bin/cue I got the following:
    Starting VCDxBuild process...

    D:\TSCV\TSCV.xml:33: error: xmlParseEntityRef: no name
    <sequence-item src="D:\Burn\Slovakia & Czech_F.mpg" id="sequence-1">
    ^
    parsing file `D:\TSCV\TSCV.xml' failed

    VCDxBuild finished
    has anybody some idea why?

  2. Nice tutorial ... I had to change it a bit to accomodate 3 separate mpgs instead of one big one w/ chapters (I think I set my chapters up right hehe).

Problem is, after I create the bin/cue and use daemontools to mount the image as a virtual cd (hah) and try to play in powerDVD it errors w/ a display problem...I had it all working once, w/ my menus on my chapter list workin (the main menu didn't).

I must have done this 20 times in the last day or so and they play individually (wmp, the csv player) ... anyone else got the display mode error?

daemontools allows you to mount cue files (among other things). Its a virtual cdrom drive with the cue file from TSCV as the cd. But I figured out my problem w/ TSCV (The menu mpg was encoded wrong). Now, if I can get the mpegs to follow each other instead of going back to the chapter list I'd be set (making cartoon vcds, and it'll finish one mpg and go back to the chapter menu).

Marty thanks for the tutorial. Great job.
I find tvsc a bit strange to work with so your tutorial helped.
Can you just explain to me about the second chapter Index page?
how big is the image size or canvas size you used?
Did you just create one large canvas and add in the different pics for the chapters? If so wouldnt that have to be a large bitmap that would not fit in tvsc ?
also are the chapter pics clickable? Can you make them like that? That you can highlight the chapter and hit enter to play it?
just curious. I am working on some chapters now.
One more thing how did you do your pics? Did you capture them from an avi or mpeg? If so with what software?
    thanks again
    Dave

  12. both menus are the same size....

i shrunk the images to fit them onto the menu

no, they are not clickable but the keypad on the computer does work in place of numbers on the remote

i actually used tscv to capture the pictures for that one, however, since then, i use capture express...its a program that allows you to do screenshots (how i make the guide) its free for download on download.com

you can just open the movie in a dvd playing program, hit F11 when you find your shot...save it as a jpg and then modify it in any paint program

its pretty easy and there are no glitches to work around

    try it, let me know

    hey, thank you

and i believe the error comes a couple of things

if you have the Enable Media Player on Chapter-tab
or the Enable VFAPI-avi for menu work box checked off in the settings tab, and you do not load the VFAPI-avi when it askes you (after you load the mpg) you will get this error...if you are following my guide, and are not using the menu generator to make your menus, then dont worry about the error.

to see if this is the case, CHECK THOSE TWO BOXES, then go to the menu tab, click on your mpg....after you get the error, just say yes, or continue, whatever it says....it should take you tot he chapter tab

go back to the SETTINGS tab and see if the boxes automatically unchecked themselves, if they did, then dont worry...go ahead with what you are doing, follow the rest and everything should be ok

if the problem persists, go to the ttool site....ask someone there translate the error

im going to be outta town for the next 4 days, so i hope this helps

i am also coming out with a guide for motion menus, hopefully to be done by today

I have Windows Media Player checked, but not VFAPI (I don't know what it is or how to use it.) I get this error, but when I click "OK" nothing happens. It just sits there on the menu tab and won't allow me to advance to the chapters tab, so I'm pretty effectively stuck.

  19. ok..that error you get it cuz you did not load a vfapi and you had the windows media box checked

if you notice that after you get that error, if you go back to the settings menu, that box will no longer be checked

if you are making still menus, dont worry, continue with the guide

if you are making motion menus, you need to make a vfapi and load that when it prompts you (after you load the mpg) that is all covered in the motion menu guide

    see if this is it

    let me know

Okay, I disabled media player and now I can get to the chapters tab, but once there, almost all of my options seem to be disabled and there's nothing in the viewer screen. I freehand entered the movielength per the instructions, but I want to hand set my chapter points, not have them set automatically ever so many seconds/minutes/frames. What am I missing here?

  26. Yo, first off, thanks for the tutorial. I need some help though.

I'm having trouble understanding what the stuff under that 'Chapters' tab does. Does it matter how many seconds I put in? I don't understand what it does to the VCD.

    Help is appreciated. Thank you.
    Quote Quote
  27. ok,

the stuff under the "Chapters tab" is where you make your entrypoints

it just puts points in your video file that allows you to skip to them either using the numbers on your keypad or the prev, next arrows....

in the top couple boxes, where it says "chapter after" or "chapter every" is just that

you can tell your program that you want a chapter after 30 seconds by typing 30 in that line and pressing enter...after the chapter is entered, the time (in seconds) will appear in the large white box on the bottom right

you can enter as many chapters as you want, or none at all...its all up to you

you can do it by frames, seconds, or minutes...

also, what i do, because i find it much easier..is this

when i rip the dvd, i have smartripper rip the *.info file....this file contains all the chapter times for the movie...if you do this, you can enter the times like this:

when you get to the chapter tab, under import chapters from, click SmartRipper....then just find your info file that you ripped...this will automatically import all of you times into that big white box...

as for the rest of that stuff (Cdi-size in...cdi...all that garbage on the right) dont worry about it, you dont need to know anything about it....

i think thats about it...lemme know what other questions you have, ill get back to you as soon as i can

    lemme know

    Quote Quote
  28. Ahh. So if I'm understanding correctly...I don't need to skip to any certain point in a chapter. I am making a VCD out of a concert. So I don't think I'll need this.

What I got out of that is that it will skip to that certain point which will be X seconds into the chapter if you tell it to.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.
    Quote Quote
  29. thats right, if all you want is a menu, then forget all that chapter stuff

its kind of convienent to have...you should just do a chapter every 10 minutes or so, so if you stop the vcd, you dont have to start it from the beginning again

but no, if you dont want, you dont have to have chapters to have a menu

    hope it helps

    Quote Quote
  30. My two cents:....A lot of people are having problems with Tsvc, I think this is agreat program for menus,
I think the only problem is this program is too complicated due to the fact that it requires other programs
to do its job,(vfapi, Tmpeg, ....). Since menus are individual mpeg files, I create them first using different
programs with nice animation to create a final mpeg. after all my menus are created THEN I use TSCV to create
the BIN/CUE file. And that is it. It does not matter what programs you use to create the final mpeg, as long as
you have a working mpeg that you can use to burn a BIN/CUE. I wish there was a --simple-- LITE version of TSCV
that would make the XML file and nothing else to avid confusion.
