hi there everybody,
i´ve analyzed a movie with Bitrate Viewer 1.5 before and after transcoding with Dvd2One 1.1.2 and Instant Copy 7.0.3.140 and i need help on understanding the results.
here they are:
bitrate q level
peak average peak average total size
Original Movie 7203 5381 5.38 2.01 5.30GB
Dvd2One 6812 4375 5.52 2.27 4.36GB
Instant Copy 6737 4210 28.00 26.96 4.21GB
What does that big difference on the Q level, between Dvd2One and Instant Copy, mean?
What is the Q level? Can someone explain me that please?
Is a higher Q level better for quality results?
Does it pass any information to the dvd player?
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards.

Q level means quantize level. High Q usually means high compression and lower quality. Perhaps those progs have different ways of calculating average Q.

"Q" is for the quantitization level of your video. As Poplar said, it's an indication of how much compression is used for your encodes, and lower is better.
I don't use either program, but it looks to me like IC is really honking up the video to have the Q level go that high. High contrast areas can do this, maybe IC is jacking around with the video's gamma and contrast/brightness.
None of this info is passed to the DVD player (it doesn't really care what you feed it).ICBM target coordinates:
26° 14' 10.16"N -- 80° 16' 0.91"W
