Hi, I converted a movie from AVI to MPEG and nobody told me how to add subtitles after converting! So, I have subtitles in SRT format and I have installed Virtual Dub as well as the TextSub filter. I have added the subtitles so how do I save it as an MPEG?

Edit: I did try other methods using VobSub and Sub Station Alpha (all of which needs frameserving so then I gave up). I also tried this:

    http://www.how-to-convert.com/ask_us/a7042003.htm

Even though I'm NOT making selectable subtitles, it won't hurt to give it a try since it's going in the right direction. So up to the point where you have to generate the SUB file in MaestroSBT, I get an "unknown error." But I downloaded an SRT>>SUB converter. So I continued to the WinSubMux step. I had my filename as 0.sub. I opened that SUB file as Stream 0. When I clicked "Load All", this error message appeared:

" is not a valid integer value.

What does that mean? I had the button at SVCD and CVD and it won't work.

If you convert your video again from MPEG to MPEG with subtitles, you have gone one step too far.

If the original AVI video is still available, load it into Virtual Dub, use the TextSub filter and when your subtitles are way they should be, frameserve to TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG.
    Hello.

I always add the subs with VirtualDub:
    • Get the subs in .SSA format or convert it to .SSA
Make sure it's for the same frame rate as the AVI, if not correct it
Use Avery Lees Subtitler filter to add the SSA
      Frame serve to your encoder
You can add selectable subs to a SVCD, but I've never tried that. I believe there are guides for this at this site tho...

What do you mean frameserve to the encoder? I already converted the video to MPEG. I just need to add the subtitles. I don't want to convert all over again. Is there some other way?

You can't add permanent subs to a mpeg file without reencoding.
Selectable subs can be added to a SVCD mpeg without reencoding, but I've never tried that. Not all DVD players support it.

  7. You can't add permanent subtitles to an already encoded Mpeg file, like the guy also said. Sorry man but your gonna have to encode again...What are you exactly trying to do...? create OGM to VCD or SVCD...?

  8. For the valued integar error I think it means that you can't have the sub file saved as 0.sub...?
