  1. I dunno, maybe I am lucky. I'd admit that the Apex players aren't as well constructed "quality" wise, but its so cheap, if it fails, ill get another one. I still use DupEZ's "LD" discs, I think they work great.
Alot of people say exactly the same thing as you...you've definitely gotten your money's worth out of that Apex standalone...hopefully I don't jinx it for you though. As far as the LD's...they are excellent quality....I finally found out what I thought all along and that is that the SONY ACCU disks and DUPEZ were manufactured by Lead Data as well...but were of higher quality.

Lead Data no longer makes the OEM Sony disks...but even if they did...as much as I loved them....4x media is just too inexpensive for HIGH quality right now to even think about buying online. The LD's are good disks...they still have more parity errors then the higher quality disks...but not enough to usually harm playback.

LD, like many other manufacturer's of 4x media haven't gotten a stable product as of yet. LD's 4x disks are extremely inconsistent @4x and not just with the Sony burners. As far as playback issues at a 2x or force 2x burn speed...I've seen none to date....fortunately, there are plenty of other "fish in the sea" at this point in time.

  4. Are you kidding?

you are going to swap out your burner and whatnot to tailor for an POS apex dvd player?

just spend a few more quarters and buy a decent player. Those apex are absolute junk. I bought one for for a 3rd TV I have a few months back and I returned it 3 hours later. Aside from being picky on media, the power button fell off.
