DVDs I've authored with DVD WS work fine in my Sony DVD player.

My mom has a PHILLIPS DVD Recorder and they play fine in there.

The Phillips created disks work fine my Sony and my Toshiba, Apex, and Samsung.

The disks I've authored in Ulead do not work in the Toshiba, Apex or Samsung.....

Is there a compatibilaty issue with the way DVD WS authores the disks?

I always burn with NERO, might that be the problem?

    Thanks for any info,
    gNOME...

Are they all on the same media brand?

    Yep,

    Verbatim 2X & 4X +R disks
    A few Memorex

    Here is some more info....

Disks recorded in the Phillips DVD Recorder work fine in all our players.

Disks I rip with DVD Shrink 2.3 work fine in all our players.

Disks I create with DVD Workshop play in our 2 Sony players and the Phillips Recorder but not in any of the other players.

    Apex, Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba.

I find it strange that the disks I create in my burner with DVD Shrink work fine, but DVD Workshop authored disks do not.

I have played DVDWS-authored discs in Apex and Panasonic players, so I don't think its a compatibility issue...

Question: Why do you burn using Nero, instead of using DVDWS' internal burning engine? Nero might be your problem; I'm led to understand, via numerous forum postings here, that Nero doesn't always burn DVD-R's properly. Try burning from within DVDWS and see what happens.

I'll second that. I've always used DVDWS to author straight through to the burning process. All discs have worked in my standalone and PS2 with -R, -RW and +RW that I've tried so far.

    I have...

    1. A Toshiba SD-R6012 DVD-R/DVD-RW computer drive

ULEAD created DVDs play just fine in this drive.

    2. An Apex AD1100W stand alone DVD player

ULEAD created DVDs play just fine in this player.

    3. A GE 1106P-B stand alone player

ULEAD created DVDs play just fine in this player.

The ULEAD compatibility page is here:

    http://www.ulead.com/dws/compatibility.htm

I don't believe the issue is one of compatibility.

I believe the issue is one of whether or not the correct steps were taken to create the discs.

I've used several versions of Nero from 5.5 to 6.0.0.1
I have found some that don't burn DVDs properly.

I don't think nero is the problem becaus I use it to burn disks backed-up with DVD Shrink. They work fine in all of the players.

DVDWS does not recognize my Sony External FireWire burner.

As for my method for authoring the disks...

    1) Capture from DV Camcorder.
    2) Edit, usualy just cut off at the beginning and end.
    3) Set chapter marks & thumbnails.
    4) Create Menu (Usualy VERY simple one page menu)
    5) Create disk (Have DVDWS create VIDEO_TS folder)

I then burn the DVD with Nero.

Have you checked on the DVD Players compatibility list to the left here to see if the player you want to play it on will play -R, +r, or whatever? Every time you introduce a different player you want to play to, it can be frought with frustration.

Tools you use to burn can make quite a difference as well. I used to use Nero, but after someone suggested Record Now Max, I've been using it with a lot more success.

I have DVDWS, and am pretty successful with it. I have not tried to burn straight to DVD with it, so I cannot verify how well it works. I burn to a directory set (VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS), and then use Record Now.
    Thanks
    Roger
