    Hi all...

I did do some searching on editing the .ifo and .vob files to get rid of the DVD X COPY (xpress as well) "Backup Warning" on your legally ripped DVD's. I found a simpler way to do it, which I didn't find covered anywhere here yet (pardon me if it was).

From my experience (and experiments), DXC and DXCX will not rip DVD's that have their "archive.txt" file on the disc. HOWEVER, it will BURN a disc that doesn't have the archive.txt file. As well, I've found it easy to replace a few files to get the original 'FBI' warning back in there instead of the DXCX 'backup' warning.

Basically, using DXCXpress, I get a compressed, single-disc DVD with the original warning, movie-only... and I can make another copy later on (using DXC, if you use DXCX again, it will compress the movie further).

Please let me know how/if my tests are flawed. I've been doing this for about 30 movies... and they come out fine every time. It works for compressed or uncompressed movies, doesn't matter. I realize there's other ways/combos of doing this same thing, but this is VERY fast and easy.

    For DVD X COPY Xpress:

    1. Rip the movie
    2. When the screen comes up asking you to insert your blank DVD, don't close it!!
    3. Copy the VIDEO_TS.VOB, .IFO and .BUP from the ORIGINAL movie disc, to the temp\VIDEO_TS folder that was written by DXCX. This will overwrite the ones created by DXCX. A simple drag-n-drop procedure in WinXP.
    4. Delete the 'Archive.txt' file from the root temp folder
    5. Insert your blank DVD and continue your burn! The program doesn't check for an archive.txt file at this point, it just burns whatever you have in the temp dir.

I'm using v. 3.01 and it works fine for me with my Sony DRU-500a 2.0f and DVD-R. The movies play fine with all my home players. I'm placing an uncompressed version of the original menu files (.ifo and .vob) and it STILL keeps the total disc size under the limit), the menu's don't show up, just the movie... like it's supposed to do (Xpress version). As well, if I want to make another copy, from my copy, it's easy... I just repeat the above process. However, I would use DVD X COPY, not Xpress, which may recompress the movie even more. Or you 'could' use Nero (or whatever) since the movie has been deCSS'd and compressed to one DVD at this point.

All of this avoids having to use a separate programs to rip, edit and burn. If you want just quick n easy results of course.

If you're making 2-disc copies just do the same procedure with DXC and you'll get an EXACT copy of the movie and you'll be able to copy it again if ever needed, because of scratches, it's getting old, dog chews on it, or whatever legal archive-copy reason comes up....

Let me know if this works for any of you...

    Thanks!

    Dan B

Note: I realize that copying the original .ifo file over the top of the recreated .ifo file will change the index/chapter pointers, etc.. but it works! I've done it with DXCX, DXCX "entire disc" mode and with DXC 2-disc rip/burns. I even used a movie with 4 sub menus and it worked fine! Results may vary of course, that's why I'm asking here...

  2. That sounds good. Wouldn't it be easier to use DVD Decrytor, DVD2One, and Nero? I've found that these three steps are actually faster than DVDXCOPY. DVDXCOPY is great if you have a dvd-rom also and can just start and forget.

Just my very limited knowledge 10cents worth.

  3. you could also just rip the whole DVD to the hard drive, then use DVDFAB instead of DVDXCOPY. No warning screens to worry about.

  4. The only bad thing about DVDFab (and the reason I still use DVDXCopy) is, you can't put the extras on disc2, which only makes sense to me.

    Thanks guys...

If you'll note in my original post, I'm just avoiding using multiple programs, and trying to make it as simple as possible. I know how to use all the above tools (and have used them), but I've seen many posts from people asking for a simple solution with DVDXCOPYX only.

As for CLONEDVD, it looks like a great program! I'll have to try it soon. However, for now, I've already purchased DVDXCOPY and don't want to have to buy another program. Thanks for the heads-up on it tho'

Again, I posted this info mostly for people who own DXCX and DXC... looking for a quick n dirty solution.

    Thanks,

    Dan B
