  1. Hey All,

To backup my movies I use a HP300i DVD+R drive and use Memorex 4.7 GB DVD+R Media discs. My PC is a P4 200 mhz 40 gb system and have backed up close to 20 movies in my collection so far. I recently purchased Head of State and was playing around with the multiple sound tracks and have run into a problem.

To back up my movies, I use DVD Decrypter file mode, copy all to the hard drive. Then i use dvd2one and do full disc but only choose one soundtrack. I use Nero to burn and all has been well since using the guides on here. For some reason head of state comes out to a size of 4.37 gb which is 100% correct. But when i go to burn it in Nero it says the files are too large for the discs. Can that be the case? I tried Record Now MAX and the same problem occurred. How can Nero and RecordNow Max see it as a larger folder then windows?

Anyone who could help would be muchly appreciated...Thanks again,
    Craig

I think you mean 2000 mhz...if your computer is a P4. As far as your problem....it does sound like your files are too large. Try to burn onto a different type of media...like another brand and see what happens.

4.37 is pretty much the max you can safely put onto a DVDR. And in many cases, that size is too big to avoid complications. When you right click on the folder what are your total BYTES. I have a feeling that you are closer to 4.38 GB's then 4.37. I've burned 4.37 GB's a couple of times...but I usually keep it 4.36 or less.

  3. Hey There,

The total byte size is 4,702,267,392. Im just curious as to why this disc is causing the problem and why i havent had problems up until this point. Do you have any recommendations? Any other shrinking software you feel produces a great image while keeping extras. I only want the dts soundtrack for this backup as well.

    Thanks again

    Blank DVD+R 4,483MB 4,700,372,992 bytes or 4.377GB
    Blank DVD-R 4,489MB 4,706,074,624 bytes or 4.383GB

  5. Change the output size in DVD2One. I can't remember what I set mine to, but the default value made the file size too large.

Do not how this could relate but here it goes. I backup XFiles Season 7 Disc 2 using DVD2One 4472 default size. I tried burning with Nero using "ISO/UDF 1.02", it told me my files where to big. I Then tried it on the old reliable setting of "DVD-Video" selection. It burned it without a hitch.

I have switched to UDF 1.02 cause my iBook's Apple DVD player 3.0 will not recognize any DVD burn as "DVD-Video" only UDF 1.02

  7. Hey Thayne,

I just ordered dvd2one v. 1.23 and is ready to go...What settings did you set your program to so that it would fit on one disc? and is it variable ratio or constant ratio?

    Thanks again

I'll have to look when I get home. I haven't updated to the newest vesion so I cant choose variable, but I read somewhere here constant is best.

I'm thinking I set mine to 4450, just off the top of my head. Default I think is set to 4470

  9. @ cgiesler83, just as I figured.....you exceeded the file size of the media. As tompika said..use a DVD-R and you should be fine. Keep in mind though..exceeding 4.37 GB's on either format isn't reccomended and you should be very cautious with burning that close to the edge on any media.

For future projects, I suggest you keep the total output to 4.36 GB's or less..and you'll put yourself in a better situation...but even then you can experience issues...just not as many.

    Unfortunately he can't.
The HP300 is a plus only burner.

I meant he could shave a couple of MB off.

Yea, and he even specified that in his first post. I get too caught up with My Sony and think all drives are multi-format. I don't know what i'd do with a single format drive. Not only is it amazing for the erray of both formats...but when there's a sale...I could care less which format it is on sale...just grab one or the other.

Anyway, they are using Ricoh media, ...luckily for them they don't have a -R burner and have Memorex media..then it would be CMC and they'd almost certainly have a playback issue at that forced capacity. With Ricoh they should be ok...but still shouldn't force the max like that.
