  2. Smelly media, and I thought I had heard it all LOL. Could it be mold?

  3. No, it's not a mold smell... it's more of a maple syrup sort of smell... I have never smelled anything like it before.

It's a new dimension in Multimedia. First there were
movies, then talking movies, now we have the full sensory
experience smello-vision. The DVD spec will be modified
to include smell tracks and a guide will be published
on how to fix video/smell sync problems.

I bought a second batch of Memorex DVD+R 4X (25 pack). that smelled the same as the first 25 pack. My smell went away after "airing" out. Closed environment can lenger the production smell. probally packaged too soon. Let them air seprately then see if it still has the same smell when you stack them back together.

Did the smell of the DVDs stay in?

  10. That's normal. I have a 50 pack of CDs that smell like brown sugar - at least that was the closest smell. Fresh DVDs also have this smell. Perhaps we are the only ones with 'the gift' of smelling this.

  11. Hmmm... yeah, brown sugar is a good description for the smell. The crazy thing is I've never encountered anything like this in all my years.

Well, as long the data is okay I don't care. Thanks for all the meaningful replies guys

  13. I can see the headline now.
    Police crack illegal DVD ring.
Police have cracked an illegal DVD ring last thursday. No not a pirating ring, but much worse. Kids these days are now looking to DVD's to get their quick fix. DVD's usually are sniffed, but may also be injected or smoked. Police have in custody.........

btw, every office xp cd that i have gotten from dell has had the ihop smell, people in the office thought i was crazy when i asked them to smell the cd.

  19. Everytime I buy Ritek discs I notice the syrup smell too. I guess it's the glue they use to make the discs.

    Doesn't smell too bad!

  20. I sort of thought that the TDK 4X +R spindle and a lot of the cdrom blanks i bought in the past reminded me of the smell of celery.

I assumed it was a cleaner they used after the manufacturing process myself.

    Cheers

  21. Ok, time to put this in the DVD Media compatibilty list. I just checked all of my spindles, here's what I've come up with:

Fuji (rebadged G03) --> Celery (I definitely agree w/ Tboneit here)
2x TDK --> almost brown sugar, but not quite
    BeAlls --> Plastic
2x Maxell --> celery coated w/ brown sugar

Can we add this to the DVD Media section?

I'd like DVD-R discs that smell like pizza.

Mmmm .... PIZZA Good ... mmmmmmm

    - John "FulciLives" Coleman

    Yes Meritline?
OK well I'd like 1 spindle of 100 DVD-R pizza scented discs and what the hell throw in 1 spindle of 25 DVD-R brown sugar scented discs. I might want desert after my pizza.

Yeah, lately I've been getting batches of CD's, the kind that have the white inkjet printable surface, and they smell like burnt vanilla / maple syrup. It must be going around...

Hey, maybe there will be an upsurge in the demand for Aroma discs again.
