hi! i'm a newbie and have a simple question: Would TMPGEnc encode generally faster if i would have a faster computer? i'm presently using an AMDK6II 450 Mhz. i'm planning to buy a newer computer before the year ends. thanks!

As a comparison, when i was using my PII 333 with tmpeg it would take around an hour to encode 5 mins worth of film. Now I have a 1ghz t'bird, and it takes about 15mins to do the same clip. hope this helps

With my Pentium III, 800mhz, 198 ram it takes 20 min to convert 5 min video clip (VCD compliant).

I wnet form a AMD 500 - 384 megs of pc 100 ram to a thunderbird 1.2 gig 266 bus with 512 megs of PC 133 ram I went from encoding a 4 minute video that took 1hour 20 min. to 9 min. now.
Could even capture Divx without huge frame drops with the 500 now its now problem with thumnderbird (no frame drops). -
The processor is the single most important component if you want high encoding speeds in TMPGEnc.
TMPGEnc doesn't use much RAM, and the speed of your hard disk won't make a difference, so if you're buying a new computer for encoding, get the fastest processor you can.
By the way, TMPGEnc supports dual processors very well if you go that route.
