  2. Well, just to bring this full circle and back on topic......

    My problems are solved.

In the end, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the burner. It works brilliantly - not one coaster yet.

Problem was I was using DVD+R media for my burns, which worked just fine on my PC, but which my Panasonic standalone just wouldn't read (despite the compatibility list saying it should). I tried all the different Nero and RecordNow setting combinations suggested, all to no avail.

Finally, I switched to DVD-R's and PRESTO!!, they work perfectly in both standalones I have!!

It all makes sense now as Matsushita are firmly planted in the DVD Forum and DVD-R camp.

Thanks for all the suggestions, though. I learned quite a bit through it all.

  4. Nah.... I've got a one format standalone PLAYER.

The DVD+R discs work great in my Sharp portable and on my PC. They just don't work in the Panasonic. That's a Panasonic compatibility problem, not a burner problem.

    Cheers!

You said +R was supported by that Panny!

I bet both your players would play my discs (or thayne's or thxkids's,...) because of the booktype that a dual drive can not change.

LOL none taken, but I have a retail Ricoh drive I don't care if people bag on me for my spelling, it was my worst subject and I'll be the first to admit my GSD is much better looking than I am

The compatibility chart shows that it should. That's what I was going by.

I am aware of the issues many are having with this Optorite drive, and that DVD+R's burned in other brand drives may very well work in my Panasonic.

But at this point, the Optorite is the drive I have, the DVD-R's it burns play nicely in both my standalone's - and so I'm happy.

My thinking is that I'll use DVD-R's for video and DVD+R's for data and I'll be just fine with this drive.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, advice and opinion.
