  1. I recently purchased a Pinnacle Studio Moviebox DV to see how good it would be at VHS to DV capturing. I have loaded all the accompanying software, read the terrible user guide and still have no option to capture from the MovieBox when I try to change the capture options within my Studio 8. Am I missing a driver, there is one for the USB box? The product sells itself as "idiot" proof, I must be an idiot. Has anyone sucessfully used this piece of kit, and can they tell me what I am doing wrong.

I have an more than adequate PC to support large DV editing and believe the problem is in the MovieBox itself.

  2. What option you want to change? MovieBox connects to your PC through IEEE 1394
port. Capture is just downloading DV file from Box to your PC. There is not many
options you can choose. Resolution, bit rate, and etc are all specified by DV spec.
The only option I can think of is that you can pick up which hard disk you want
to save the capture file and what is the file name.

  3. The option I was referring to is in the "capture device" option in Studio 8 when in capture mode. Normally it defaults to my DV camera, and if I am reading the Movibox manual correctly, the dropdown menu called "capture device" chould give me the Moviebox as an option.

Can I preview the analogue video in Studio? The problem is, even though the Moviebox is connected via my firewire port, Studio refuses to recognise it as a capture source when my VCR is playing back VHS. If I understand correctly, I plug the box into my firewire port, and plug my VCR into the box and start playback on the VCR. I then capture the video in Studio by selecting the MovieBox as my capture option.

Maybe the answer is to return the MovieBox and opt for the well reviewed Canopus ADVC-100??????

My Canopus ADVC 100 is only seen as a DV camera because its Firewire. Just use the camera option as if you were connecting to a DV camera. There are no drivers as such for Firewire, its part of the OS.

  5. Remember that moviebox DV as moviebox USB its just a bridge between ur video source and ur comp, as long as i read u use moviebox DV, so Studio 8 "believe" moviebox its Firewire device like a camera or so, then ur default choice to capture its via DV/firewire setting. You cant find "moviebox" source cuz no driver its installed (like a pci mounted card); when you connect it to firewire port, windows 2000/XP reconigze it on the fly as result of a OCH/Texas Instrument driver buit in on the system.

I hope this help you and sorry my limited english

    Your English is fine.

Currently I have my VCR connected to my DV Moviebox (and playing), and the moviebox connected to my firewire port. When I try to capture in studio 8 I get an error message "Sudio is unable to initialise capture device"

Any ideas, its works fine when I plug my Camera into the firewire port?

Got it... i can figure ur screen popup... it means S8 cannot initialize ur card as same as a DV camera, i mean the play, forward and others controls included the start capture button; did you have previsualition window in S8? if not, then means no signal comes to S8, maybe a bad firewire cord? uncool if its a bad Moviebox..... if u have previsualition, then its for real a driver problem, cant say if in Windows driver or MovieBox...

What Windows flavor u already use?
Do this... start ur comp without Moviebox pluged, then in Windows open Device Manager, then plug MovieBox and you must see how the called "capture device" or similar stuff its added in the devices list... if u can see this means ur Windows can connect to Moviebox... this its a clue to search the problem in other place...

    Post us ur experiences...
