  1. I got Johnny English on .AVI i need to convert it to .MPEG for VCD I've done the first disk with no problems at all. The problem is when I try to encode the second disk, I get the Video and Audio but the screen goes black when trying to watch it. Before you say it its not the .AVI file Ive watched the film on my computer.

  2. forum rules:

    Do NOT give warez.
Do NOT link to warez .
    Do NOT ask for warez.
Do NOT provide information how to obtain warez.
    Do NOT advocate warez.
    Warez includes pirate/bootleg movies.

You didn't need to tell us what file it was - but that's still only on in cinemas I believe.

    sorry.

  3. Druid no need to jump down his throat. If you continued to read his post he said disc so you would be led to think that he is encoding straight up.

Recoil, you need to be more specific, what is your exact method. Does your converted file play before you copy it to disc. Have you tried it on a friends player etc...

  4. hardcoreruss,

I tried to point it out in the most polite way that I could mate.

The fact that he says disc I presume refers to the fact that the avi is split into two files for two discs.

There is (arguably) no way that he is encoding straight up, as the movie has not yet been released except in the cinema.

I'm not trying to be pendantic or officious just for the sake of it - I just don't want to give anyone an excuse to shut this excellent site down. Look at what happened to cdcovers.cc - they were forced to take down all of their audio covers, apparently by the RIAA/IFPI. This site is so popular, that I bet it has not escaped the notice of the same good folk.

@recoil - I am sorry mate; but them's the rules . At the moment not many people will object (with a few exceptions) if you say "I have a problem with an avi/DivX" or whatever; just no need to mention the name of the movie (especially if it's not yet been released on DVD, and therefore it's hard to justify how you got it legitimately)

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

tbh, i don't think any Divx/Xvid conversion discussion pertains to anything other than pirated material. after all, who would backup their own material to Divx, and why would they convert -from- it instead of from the original....?

  7. flaninacupboard,

you may well be right in the majority of cases, but there are plenty of other discussions on the forum about material in MPEG4 (DivX/Xvid) etc.. which is distributed legitimately: e.g. The Internet Archive

From my point of view (to repeat myself), the only thing I care about is not giving anyone an excuse to hassle Baldrick et. al. about this site advocating/encouraging piracy etc..

Anyway - this has been discussed ad nauseam all over this forum.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

I did have a look at the johnny english website, as i presumed it would mention the DVD release (which it didn't), but I was too lazy to check on amazon.

I'm off to flagellate myself for a few hours now.

  11. Johnny English DVD UK Release Date: 11/08/03
    ...so not exactly a while.

Anyway - recoil, if you still want help, your going to have to tell us a few more details:

    e.g.

what codec is used in the avi? (load it into gSpot if you don't know)
do you have the right codec? (ditto above)
what settings are you using in TMPGEnc? (one of the standard VCD templates I presume?)
Have you tried loading the avi into VirtualDub, and doing Video->Scan Video Stream for Errors ?

    cheers,
    mcdruid.
