Just the drivers to even run properly in windows. I got an OEM, and it isn't picking it up properly.

It's windows XP, it reads it just as CD Drive and doesn't let me see it as a recorder in any programs, nor the hardware profile thing.

I have the same DVD +- dual writer as you and winxp pro detected it right away. Although I got a driver cd with mine I really didn't need it.

Try uninstalling the cd drive that windows found by removing it from the system device list ... control panel/system/hardware/device manager/dvd/cd-rom drives and right click and uninstall. Reboot and let windows find it again.

If that does not work then it could be that you have not maintained your xp updates ie..service pack1 and ms patch updates. This is a relatively newer drive and may not show up on older versions of xp. To check go to your start menu/ all programs and choose windows update. You can let ms scan your installation to see what updates are needed.

Another (less likely) cause may be that the device is misread because of a conflict due to not properly setting the master/slave jumpers on the drive if multiple devices are on the same ide controller.

I suppose you have already scanned the NEC sites to see if they offer the drivers online.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

What application are you using? Is the app an OEM version for a different drive? Windows XP won't tell you if its a burner or not. If, in the Device Manager under 'DVD/CD-ROM Drives', should be your burner. It should state the model number of your drive and its Properties should have a 'DVD Region' tab. If not, you have some problems. XP should see that drive with no problems, you don't need any other 'drivers'.

The drivers' CD I got with my drive are for XP exclusively, I got Win2K and it did recognize the drive properly.

I can just email you the drivers or put them on my webspace and give you the link so that you can download them at your convenience.

  8. I'm at a loss here. What driver? ASPI? XP does not need a 'driver' to use the drive. If you are running in DOS, then yes you will need the dos driver.

XP only reads it as a CD-ROM, not a DVD drive. If you could put up the drivers I'd appriciate it.
