  1. I have just been given this card as i start to experiment with capping, just got one problem, when I connect the audio out to my soundcard (SB Audigy) the volume if very very loud even knocking the levels down doesn't prevent a distorted soundtrack.

The video caps are great it is just the audio I need to sort out.

All drivers are the latest too.

  2. I have exactly the same capture card, the only time I have had a similar problem was when I accidentally connected the audio to the mic input on my sound card, be sure you are using Line-In, and make sure in the audio control panel that the line-in is selected for recording without any amplification

  3. Yep, checked all the obvious stuff, even read the thread below about the Rad cards, still distorted audio though.
This is on a clean WinXP install to so there can't be any driver screw ups.

  4. This is a common problem with ATI cards. I have the same problem. The way I work around it is to lower the levels, then when I run the mpg through TMPEGenc, I boost the levels. The trick is to find the right levels to capture at. Sometimes the levels will need to be different depending on the source (video tape, TV).

What you should do is when you have the ATI MMC software open, open up the audio playback and record windows and try different combinations and when you have the best levels without distorting, write the settings on a piece of paper.

I don't know if using other capture software would solve this problem. I only started having this problem myself when I had the AIW128 (I now have an AIW Radeon 7500) and upgraded the sound card from SB16 ISA to SB16 PCI audio cards.

I had the AIW 128 Pro before changing it for an AIW Radeon 7500 and have never had any audio problems with either of them. However, I have never used the link to the line in as I use this for audio work. Instead, I've used the internal CD Out connector on the AIW into the Aux connector on my Soundblaster Live 5.1 Platinum. There are two 4 pin CD audio type connectors on the AIW to allow you to connect it in line with your CD drive audio cable. Presumably, this was so any user with older soundcards could run the AIW in series with their CD audio. This also means I've got an audio input that is dedicated to the AIW (I suppose you could even use the TAD connector on the soundcard if you wanted).

One bit of advice though. Wrap a bit of insulating tape around the dangling jack plug to stop it shorting out against the pc case and really causing problems.
