  1. Hi,

I've been using TSCV v0.73 to produce SVCDs. I manually select chapters time, burn the SVCD, no problem, but when I play it on my Tokai 715 (aka Raite, Yamakawa 715), pressing the "next chapter" button on the remote just stops the playback (it directely jumps to the end of the movie).
If I use keypad numbers, same thing happens.
    The SVCD plays fine otherwise.

Did anybody experience this and did you find a solution ?
(I'm using Win2000, and a Tokai 715CS with firmware 05.54 if it helps).

  2. I had some troubles early on with TSCV and chapters. Are you using a single mpeg file with chapter entry points or multiple mpegs?

You should read up on the XML format that VCDImager uses. Then, in the window where you add the menu do the following:

    - If you have a menu, highlight it and check the right side to make sure the next and previous and jumping you to endlist (or whatever it's called). Also, check the number selection and make sure it jumps to the chapter defined

    - Do the same or each mpeg file

TSCV takes a good bit of experimentation. Also, try saving the XML file and comparing it's contents to the XML definition for VCDImager.

  3. Thanks for your quick reply.
Yes I'm using a single big MPEG file with chapter entry points (that's what I want at least).

I don't intend to use a menu, I just want to be able to select any chapter and jump from chapter to chapter like with a DVD. Somebody told me the SVCD standard was not meant to do this and that you had to come back to the chapter selection menu every time you want to jump to another chapter. Is it true ? Do you have any experience on this ?
IS it possible to generate such a "chaptered" SVCD without menu ?

    Thanks a lot.

SVCDs, in any way, shape or form, will never be able to mimic DVDs -- the best you can do is to come close, and that's all you should look to expect from (S)VCDs.

I had all sorts of problems with chaptering in TSCV so I decided to just stop using it at all until I saw more success stories here in the forum. In the meantime I've been using VCDImager Easy, and like it very much. Although it does essentially the exact same things TSCV does, I havent had any of the problems. Just about the only thing VCDImager Easy doesnt do that TSCV does is to let you use the keypad to jump from entrypoint to entrypoint. When I get some extra time, I'm going to have TSCV generate the XML file, then use VCDImager Easy generate its own XML file, then drop in the keypad sections from TSCV-XML to VCDImager Easy-XML and burn.

  5. Now that I know what you want, it is a little easier to diagnose:

    - Make sure, in the settings tab, that you have checked "XML: use keypad to jump to chapters"
    - Go to the menu page, even if you aren't using a menu
    - Click "Add mpeg" and choose the single mpeg file you want
    - double click that mpeg file to go to the chapter tab
    - I hope you have the times for the chapters, I always convert them to seconds
    - enter the seconds offset from the beginning for each chapter, and hit the enter key to add it
    - when you've added all the chapter time offsets, go back to the menu window
    - highlight each chapter under the big mpeg and check the 'previous' and 'next' settings in the right hand window they should now show the previous and next chapter names
    - also, the select ref settings should show all chapters in numerical order for every chapter

Now, you should be able to jump next and previous within each capter to get to the one you want. Also, you should be able to just hit a number on your remote during playback and it'll jump right to that chapter on the disc.

    Cool, huh?

The problem with TSCV is that it can be difficult to figure this stuff out without lots of experimentation.

  6. I would also suggest upgrading to the latest versions of both.

I had v0.7.9 and was having some problems on certain mpeg files. Now, with v0.7.10 they all went away. And I just noticed v0.7.11 today. It seems like they have weekly releases.

  7. Themamboman, You are GRRRRRREAT !

The only thing I hadn't done was
"highlight each chapter under the big mpeg and check the 'previous' and 'next' settings in the right hand window they should now show the previous and next chapter names "

I'm going to try this now : I'll let you know, but I have the feeling this might be the solution !

Thanks for your time anyway !
