I downloaded this video file that is in OGM format and I want to convert it so it can be put onto a VCD. What is this OGM format? Is it the same as AVIs?

I have read a tutorial here about OGM to SVCD. I can't play SVCDs. Since I only want one audio track, can it be put onto a VCD? Also, is there a way to remove an audio track?

I'm not sure which guide you looked at, but in general converting to VCD should be pretty much the same as to SVCD. The only real difference is that after extracting the audio and video streams you'll convert to VCD format instead of SVCD (which is usually as simple as loading the VCD template instead of the SVCD template in TMPGEnc). You don't really need to remove an audio stream, you just don't extract/convert it and then don't add it in to the final MPEG.

OGM is a not-entirely-official Ogg format for movies. Ogg containers are kind of like AVI, but newer and more versatile - they have native support for multiple audio streams, subtitles, etc. all in a single file. Usually the video stream is encoded with xvid or divx, and usually the audio is Ogg Vorbis. Not too many programs can directly open ogg/ogm movies right now.

You mean you can choose what to extract? Is there a simpler guide anywhere?

I'm having trouble with the first guide. I posted my problem (it's not plural for now) for the comments but DivXerous hasn't replied yet. Also, I can't tell if my AVI file is widescreen or not. It's a DVD-rip by somebody else and it seems flat and the characters seems a bit squashed in some scenes. But that's another matter for another time.
