Can bad media that skips be copied to hd and reburned?

Hi,
I noticed a few discs I have recently burned (Optodisc gold tops) have some skipping withing the movie. Can I copy the the media that is skipping onto my hard drive and then reburn onto better media or do I have to start from scratch and encode/reauthor from the original?

I'm not sure if the skipping will be someow copied if I rip the movie from the bad media onto my hard drive.

that's a good question, and the answer unfortunately, is "usually" not.

The reason for this is because the data is damaged on that part of the disk due to bad sectors.

Sometimes cheap quality media will cause skipping on some standalone players, but will not on others. Also, in those particular cases, the media will be able to be read by a DVD-ROM. If that is the case, then you should have no problem re-ripping the data off the disk.

However, in most cases, your DVD ROM won't be able to play those disks in the damaged spots..and as a result...you are SOL A.K.A Shit out of Luck. Try to put one of the disks in question and play it with your DVD ROM...if it locks up at the same point as your standalone....go ahead and try to rip the disk...but you aren't going to be able to.

I think they're probably asking the question so they know how much they should risk using cheap media. If the answer was YES...you can re-rip the disk every time..then in the instances this issue arouse...i'm sure they'd simply burn the movie onto a higher quality disk.

Now that they know the answer...maybe they'll research what types of media they should be purchasing. At least that's what I would do if I were in their situation.

Try it on your PC. If it plays on the PC with no skipping, great. If not, rip it to your hard disk. If it plays THERE with no skipping, then reburn it.

If you can't rip it (bad sectors, etc.) then sorry.
