I just got a Pioneer A06 and have been frustrated with a few problems I've had with it.

One is that I can play a DVD-RW that I burned on it which has menus, but I cannot play commercial DVDs with menus. This is when using the ulead player software that came with the drive.

Some examples:
After I press the play button onthe player, The Matrix DVD just shows a black full screen, is silent, and doesn't respond to left or right clicking with the mouse. The player will go out of fullscreen mode and can be closed if I eject the DVD from the drive though.

Twin Peaks: Season 1 Disc 4 works at the top menu where you can only pick episode 7 or the extras. But after you pick the extras, it plays the little sequence where it moves the extras menu into place and a couple seconds of video in the background then just stops. The DVD drive light stays on constantly, but the sound and action stops and the player doesn't acknowledge any kinds of mouse clicks (nor does the pointer change to a hand when on top of menu items). It might be relevant that there are a LOT of different sub-menus one can navigate through on the extras section of this disc.

Here are some possibly useful facts:

I can play an all-region commercial DVD that has no menus. Matrix and Twin peaks are region 1.

I can play a DVD-RW I created on the same sysytem using Ulead Movie Factory 2. That disc has top menu of several items which all link to short movies.

I installed the PowerDVD player trial after encountering the problem, and it WILL play Matrix and Twin Peaks discs on my my system. (I don't want to buy it though)

I have installed all the patches from Ulead's site.

I have the A06 DVD drive installed as IDE Secondary Master and my Sony CDRW drive as Secondary Slave.

When I originally installed (and when I reinstall) the Write DVD! part of A06 budled software, I get a warning about some conflicting burning software, and that I should cancel the install and remove the conflicting software first.

I know that I have installed drive letter access software previously for my Sony CD-RW drive, which is still connected. Though I can't find that software now. Also, I do have CDex CD ripping/burning software installed. Could either of there be a problem?

Please help. And thanks to the folks who recommended the ADVC-100 and Scenalyzer, they've been great.

p.s. For people thinking about buying Ulead software: Their lack of toll-free phone support is annoying.
