  1. Hello there,

I have made several working backups of my dvd, but i can't get ".hack//SIGN vol1" on DVDR the copy procces is going allright (backup with DVDBackup 1.3, shrink it with DVD2oneX. and finally burn it as DVD in Toast) but when I want to play the DVD on a standalone dvd player, it only plays from the piracy warning till the last studio intro.. after that I come to the screen where i have an image from attached to this topic where it just stops.

Maybe it's an extra copy protection apart from the encryptions but i really don't know for sure.. the DVD is a BANDAI release so maybe they do that on all their discs and someone else has had that problem too.

    can anyone help?

I have tryed this post on the other DVDR->DVDR category, but without luck.. cause i use an Mac maybe..

You were doing Disc Copy mode in DVD2oneX, right? Movie-only might mess up if you chose the wrong title, or it might just mess up on some authoring jobs. Are all the VTS sets in the output VIDEO_TS folder from DVD2OneX? You got no errors anywhere along the line? Does the VIDEO_TS folder behave the same way when you play it off your HD with DVD Player?

  3. to make some thing clearer I have put here the steps to answer jour questing on my topic.

    1. Made backup with DVDBackup 1.3 (also did a copy with DVDExtract).
    2. Then I opened the "back-uped" VIDEO_TS folder from my HD in DVD2oneX.
    3. With DVD2OneX i made a "Disc Copy" (Not movie, cause i wanted to keep all the extras and stuff too.)
    4. After that I created an AUDIO_TS folder and burned the new VIDEO_TS and empty AUDIO_TS folder in Toast as a DVD (in the "other" tab above in toast)

Also the backup plays fine on the HD, even when I put the new backup into my computer (the one I made the copy with), the DVD plays just fine like it should.. but after inserting the same disc into another player, then I get my problem.

I also made about 10 working DVD backups wich i made the exact same way.

    thx for your reply

Did you let Toast verify the DVD after burning it? Also, I've found that on some dvds, if I make an AUDIO_TS folder and the original didn't have one, that it won't work right. Did the original DVD have an AUDIO_TS folder? Try just burning the VIDEO_TS folder alone to DVD-R, so you have a DVD containing only a VIDEO_TS folder and nothing else. It's a long shot, but I've had that problem before.

  5. Hi Wiseweasel,

I tryed out your new tip by backing it up again,
shrinking it, and the burning only the VIDEO_TS
folder on a dvd, and i've let it verify..

still doesn't work either.. but i found something new out
the picture i had send in my first post (above) is comming
from a folder called JACKET_P on the original disk.

You may be asking: how does that folder come in your
backup.. well that's because on my 2nd try I also copied
that folder to make sure i wasn't missing anything...
In my latest test (3rd) wich I where following your tip
I didn't burn that folder... so after the intro's i goes
    to a black screen..

Where still not any further but i can only tell what i've found
out.. below is an little extra piece of info on the DVD, I hope
you can do something with it..

    DVD MAIN FOLDER:
    AUDIO_TS
    JACKET_P <- more info below
    VIDEO_TS

    DVD JACKET_P FOLDER:
J00___5L.MP2 <- can be opened in LiveType from FinalCut Pro
J00___5M.MP2 <- can be opened in LiveType from FinalCut Pro
J00___5S.MP2 <- can be opened in LiveType from FinalCut Pro

the L, M, S probably stand for LARGE, MEDIUM, SMALL..
I also wonder if there's an IFO editor for Mac OSX

    thanks

Hmm, well, you've tried pretty much everything I can think of, and if Toast isn't getting an error, then it's probably something about what DVD2OneX is doing to that movie that makes it unplayable in that player. I would suggest to just keep the backup you made for watching the extras on a computer or a different DVD player, and make a movie-only backup with DVD2OneX for use with that DVD player. Or else, you could find a PC (or Virtual PC) to run the freeware DVD Shrink v3, which is quite good for shrinking.
