  1. I can't seem to capture anything above 20fps without dropping frames big time. When I try 29.97 it starts dropping like every other frame, and the stats window says my result is around 15fps. I can capture at 20fps without dropping a single frame. I have an Athlon 1.4GHz, soyo dragon motherboard with raid enabled, 2x60GB stripe array, but I get the same result when capturing to my non raid hard drive. When I ran the benchmark utility my sustained write was from 30-40MB a second. But in vdub I can only seem to get around 14MB a second.. everything past that seems to skip frames. Oh yeah, I am capturing at 640 or 720x480. I tried a bunch of different audio settings with the same result. Thanks for any help.

I am captured with VirtualDub 1.4.7. The picture is litle better than in MMC (but may be not).

  4. Heh, I could cap at 15-20fps (huffy codec) at 640x480 with my Celeron 333 with an ati radeon vivo 64MB ddr. and 29.97 mpeg-2 with the ati software. Do you have DMA enabled on your hard drives? Might be the problem, or maybe your capture codec is slow. Try huffy with the settings set to Convert to YUY2.

  5. I installed the new drivers, but same result. DMA is enabled on both drives.. and I am using YUYV or whatever the default one is on virtualdub. Same result when using the MMC 7.1. Any thoughts?

  6. I just tried the huffy codec, but still couldn't acchieve 29.97 frame rate. I kept getting around 25, but the wierd thing was, when I switched to 20 fps, I captured at like 15. I am really stuck here, I would appreciate any suggestions.

  7. I capture with compression compatability and with fps set to one of the default NTSC because if I find that this delivers me more fps with no frame drops. Wish I had your rig : ) I'm gonna buy a mb/cpu 1.2 or higher athlon soon.

  8. I have exactly the same problem with dropped frames in VDub with a RADEON 64Mo DDR VIVO.
I have installed the DVD Player 4.1 and same result ...
FilComArt could you please post your config (drivers ATI, etc ...) ?
    Thanks.

  10. There is my config :

    Athlon 1.4GHz + A7A266 MB + 256Mo DDR
    HD 40Go IBM 7200 RPM ATA100
    RADEON 64 Mo DDR VIVO
    Last Official Drivers from ATI
    MMC 7.1
    Registry settings from Virtual Dub
    W2k SP2 + DX 8.0 + Capture update
    And I can't capture in 720*576 25 fps without 20% frames dropped !!!
I can capture in 720*288 0 frame dropped, but 20% frames dropped in 352*576. The problem seems to be in vertical resolution.

What do you think about it ?
    Thanks.

  11. I think your trouble is in your motherboard (based on ALI chipset). Try load new AGP miniport drivers from Acer web site and install ATI DVD 4.1 with File Player (because it contain bug fix).

  12. Thank you for your post.
I am completly bored with this ATI.
I have already installed the latest drivers for ALI chipset (1.80) and the ATI DVD Player 4.1 with File Player and the result is the same : frames dropped !!!

i had a very similar problem with this old, unsupported vidcap card - i could not VDUB capture at 29.97fps in full vertical rez (max horizontal lines). i had no problem with 29.97fps at 352x240, 480x240 or 640x240, but as soon as i went to full vert rez, even 352x480, the darn thing would drop frames, effectively capturing at about 20fps max. turned out to be a design flaw in the driver for the vidcap card. so, i picked up a tv tuner card on ebay for $19, installed it with drivers, and have since been able to VDUB cap 640x480, at 29.97fps no problem. might be worth just picking one up at your local store to try out. if it works, you'll at least know it was the ATI card and/or its driver and not some obscure setting on your system.

  14. I have noticed this fact last night : when I capture in 480*576 / 16 bits 44.1 KHz , the sampling frequency of audio part is about 47.5 KHz and the data rate of the audio part is about 182 K/s !!! Then during the capture the sampling frequency decrease and become normal in 10 minutes and then 0 frame dropped. Is someone has an idea ?
    Thanks

  15. Hello everybody

I have the solution for capturing in 720*576 with Vdub and ATI RADEON without dropping any frames. I have installed the 3132 drivers for win2K and MMC 7.1. Vdub seems to have a bug. First select 352*288 with Menu/Video/Format and not Menu/Set Custom Format. Launch the capture and then stop it. Select 720*576 with Menu/Video/Format. Launch the capture : 0 frame dropped.
    Hope it will help you.
