  1. Ok I know it can be done but how exactly do I convert a 25fps divx file to NTSC vcd with TMpegenc without the video and audio being out of since.

Load the divx into TMPGEnc and under the video tab set it to 23.976fps and on the advanced tab enable the "do not framerate conversion" filter. On the main screen select video only and encode.

Now go back to your original divx file and load it in Virtual dub and set the audio tab to direct stream copy and then hit file/save wav. Load this wav into BeSweet and set the output to mp2. Click the PAL-NTSCfilm option, this will tell BeSweet to slow the audio down from PAL to NTSCfilm.

Finally, multiplex your video (m1v) and your audio (mp2) with something like TMPGenc (file/mpeg tools/simple multiplex.) Set the output type to mpeg1 VCD.

Make sure you are using the newest BETA versions of BeSweet and the BeSweet GUI. The so-called STABLE versions don't work correctly when using the PRE-SET frame rate PAL (25fps) to NTSC (23.976fps) option.

As for how to use it ... well it really isn't that hard to do but it is somewhat difficult to explain without using up a lot of time and words ...

One word of advise. Convert the WAV into a new WAV. Then convert the new WAV (with the proper framerate) into MP2 or whatever you want to use (AC-3 or LPCM).

    P.S.
Another way to do the video (which I think makes life easier) is to do this:

Load the original 25fps DivX file in Virtualdub. Under frame-rate change it to 23.976fps. Set AUDIO to none. Set VIDEO to DIRECT STREAM COPY. Save AVI. This will save a new version of the DivX file that is exactly the same as the original (no re-encoding takes place) except it will be VIDEO only (no AUDIO) and it will now be 23.976fps. Now when you load this into TMPGEnc it will see it as NTSC and if you use the WIZARD MODE it will automatically select NON-INTERLACED (aka PROGRESSIVE) encode with 3:2 pulldown enabled. No need to fool around with the DO NOT FRAMERATE CHANGE thingie in TMPGEnc. In fact if you are happy with MP2 sound you can load your converted WAV at the same time and do your encode and you will have A/V sync in your final MPEG file.

  5. I thought VCD was MPEG1 (i.e.: NO PULLDOWN SHIZNIT) so it has to convert to 29.97fps....

RFF/TFF flags (pulldown flags) only apply to mpeg2. All VCD compatible dvd playes are required to automatically telecine NTSCfilm (23.976fps) encoded VCDs to 29.97fps as the movie plays. If possible you should always convert to 23.976fps instead of 29.97fps.

That's what I thought. But, this guy said that you can put the flags in the file.

Sorry about that but I haven't done VCD for a while ... all I do now is MPEG-2 DVD stuff so I find myself thinking in terms of that but you did clearly state VCD I just either didn't pay attention or more likely went into auto-pilot mode.

    Sorry!
