  1. Capturing from analogue TV I may have an alternative for you.

I built my current PC with the best parts MY money could buy at the time AND that would pass the capturing mpeg2 format for a cartoon on TV.

Well, I guess what I bought was too close the bottom of the specs for mpeg2 capture as I'm having a bit of a problem with the capture. Since I posted on this subject under my other un-usable handle Megadeus324 I won't go into too much detail, especially since I have lost my pictures of the problem from the other post. Anyway's, basically I was getting sections of the captured file that would have alot of pixels all over the screen. This would happen about every 10-20 seconds, especially when the action was intense.

I have worked on this problem for over a month now and have finally figured a workaround for wanting mpeg2 BUT capping at mpeg format.

Basically I did this: I opened up WinDVR (used for timed capture) and modified the DVD capture profile. The ONLY modification I made was changing the mpeg2 format to mpeg. That's it. Everything else stayed the same.

Now, the only hiccup I have is when I drag the capped file to MovieID or look at it with Gspot they both say it is mpeg2, but it isn't. One way I know this is I have tried editing mpeg2 with TMPGEnc + and it just freezes TMPGEnc. With these "Faked" mpeg2/mpeg files I CAN edit them in TMPGEnc + with no problems. Which brings me to my next step in the capture process.

After I capture the show using the modified DVD profile, I then edit the file in TMPGEnc + to cut out the commercials. I now have 2 files which I mux back together with TMPGEnc + and THEN I encode the one file to DVD standards.

I know this sounds like alot of work BUT since I can't cap at full, 1/2 or even 1/4 DVD with ANY app I have tried (believe me I have tried eight) this is my only alternative to the real deal.

I'm awaiting some wisdom on this from txphararo (I hope I spelled that right) and LordSmurf as they were helping me with my previous post.

    Thanks

    Megadeus Ver. 3 says:

Do you mean the Mpeg2 to mpeg1 selection or the other option where you can choose mpeg2 svcd or mpeg2 generic instead of mpeg2 dvd.

If you choose mpeg2 svcd then it adjusts the resolution (framesize) to 480 by 480.

When you modify any of those (including the mpeg1 selection) it also auto adjusts the audio settings.

Try changing any of these options and then check the audio tab.

These are some changes I noticed on quick examination using windvr3.

By the way what system did you build that is under spec? I'm very interested in improving my mpeg2 DVD capture since buying my DVD writer. I've been trying out Neodvd lately since it creates the video_ts directory on the fly with the basic menus, buf, ifo , vob files while capturing. It's too early to give a thumbs up but I'm basically happy with my first results.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
