I got this unit and tried to backup some dvd's.
Used dvdripper and DVD2one and Nero...
    worked great.
Then I tried a forth disk to backup.
after it was burned I tried it in my apex unit
and nothing. So I put it back in my burner and no
    disk present.
Tried to read it with nero and it said it was a dvd-rom disk.
So I tried another disk that had worked before. Same thing,
junk disk nothing on it. BUT its finalized and can't be written to.

Did this unit go south after 3 burns? I cant understand that after 3 burns
that were perfect the 4th and 5th are throw aways. And they were all
    burned in the same way.

Thanks big time for any help

  2. Probably just bad media.

    Which brand do you use?

If not, all burners have bad burns, this may be one of them. It may also have been human error in checking your settings.

Double check everything and try burning the same thing over again.
THIS has been an RVL123 production...

I'd say, get one or two good quality DVD*RW disks and use them for testing. That's what I did, I got 3pack Verbatim and they saved me quite a few bucks by not making coasters from regular *R disks.
If the drive supports both +/- then get +RW disks as they are a bit faster (2.4x vs 2x) than -RW.

Sorry for not giving more details...and a bit clearer..it was late and I was a little mad.

    Ok I bought a 25 pack of tdk 2x dvd-r disk.
I made some backups...I think about 10 last weekend..everything worked great.
This weekend I had 3 more disk to do. I did the exact same thing I did last weekend. dvdripper to d drive...dvd2one to f drive. went to Nero and add to compolation. burn... no problems as far as I could tell. I took the dvd over and put it in my dvd player and init message and nothing.
So I went back to the computer and put in the disk...no disk in drive.
So I tried nero and it said dvd-rom inserted.
Nero says there are no files on the disk but it can't be written to.

Last night after I posted I rebooted my system and tried to play the dvd files on my computer no problems there. Maybe a hardware glitch.
So I again tried to burn a disk. (I am stopping by tonight and getting a couple of rw, thanks for the tip) well anyway nero shows 4.5G and writes and everything looks fine. But nothing can read the disk. Liteon dvd reader says no disk inserted in drive.

    thanks again for your help

Final update now I am really confused.

Well I went and got a few dvd-rw.. memorex....I hate them in cdr
but it was all I could find.

I tried to put a movie on it. it got 98% complete and just ejected the disk
no error no nothing in norton.
I rebooted and tried to format the disk....it starts then says could not calibrate power on drive. WHOOOOOOW this is bad I thought.
Then I said well maybe it memorex ?
This is when I said bad drive.

So I rebooted and one more disk to nero and a movie
    it worked fine ???????
I again tried to quick format the dvd-rw and calibration error.
Tried another dvd-rw disk and quit writing at 2% with error this time.
tried a simpsons disk...hey it worked again with tdk 2x -r disk.

I don't know but I think its just the disk that are the problem and not the drive....I sure hope so

thanks again for your help in what to try
