How to compress a movie to fit in a DVD

Hi!
I downloaded a movie from my digital camcorder to my Hardrive with Ulead MovieFactory and the final file size was 18 Gb.How can I compress the file so it can fit in a dvd with a menu and all the production I make on it?

IF its not possible to put everything inside one DVD how do I know in advance how many movie I will be able to burn in one DVD?

1 - It is essential that you read the guides on DV to DVD conversion. The guides are at the left of this sight.

2 - Essentially what you have from your camera is the raw DV AVI data. You will go through and edit your video however you like it, then it must be converted to MPEG2, which through that process you will determine the proper parameters(bitrate for the encoder) needed to get your film to the proper size. Then you will author the MPEG files and burn the results to a DVD. All these steps are in the guides as well. It will be easier for you to reference them that for us to try and explain what is already there. Besides, they do a much better job than I ever could!
