  1. Has anyone been able to determine the cause of this error? All my other apps that require MPEG2 decoding work just fine. I suspect this is a general error message?

    Any thoughts?

  2. I've received this exact same error. I'd like to know what the deal is as well.

  3. This worked for me https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=243#comments. It's a plug-in.

    Good luck

No dice for me. Did a fresh install of both TMPGEnc DVD and the plug-in. It still fails.

I have several MPEG2 deocders already installed. WMP, PowerDVD and Vobrator all work when viewing VOBs and .m2v files. I think this is exclusive to TMPGEnc DVD Author, not my entire system.

  5. I am also having the same problem with TMPGEnc DVD Author giving me the error message "could not initialize decoder". I have tried every method given in the forum postings but yet, no one can give an answer as to the reason why this message is coming up. The movie I backed-up is Ace Ventura:Pet Detective, it is 4:3, i used dvd2one to make a dvd to dvd-r copy and it worked successfully, with every other movie i have backed-up i have not had this problem occur. I tried loading just as straight files and TMPGEnc would not accept the following files after vts_01. I am stuck and i dont understand why this movie is not being read by TMPGEnc DVD Author.

    thanx

    blake.

  6. I encountered the same error message too. What I did was to multiplex the Mpeg2 file with TMPGEnc Plus as an 'Mpeg 2 VBR' type file and then reload it onto TMPGEnc DVD Author. This time, the error message did not appear and processing was successful with the authoring programme.
No guarantees, but this worked for me....

  7. I had the same error and did what dong said. It now works fine. Very important: when doing the multiplex in TMPGenc, do not do it under "simple multiplex", do it under "multiplex" and it then loads fine into TMPGenc DVD author. Thanks Dong!

  8. Thank you for your quick response dong and Hojobey, I will definitely give this method a try.

What i would like to know however is what type of DVDs does this problem will occur in so i know ahead of time?

I tried to backup Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and i saw from a different thread that the same problem occured with another member not too long ago and they were backing up Witches Of Eastwick.

Are there any similarities between these two movies and other movies in the way they were originally manufactured that is creating this problem?

    thanx again,
    blake.

Well I tried everything you guys suggested and still got the error. I then used DVD Patcher and patched the WHOLE m2v file to DVD spec (originally was 544x480) and that allowed me to get passed the error.

Hope that helps some of you guys.
