  1. I hope someone can help. I am using TMPG Plus 2.5. I have tried several avi types but after I complete the encoding process their is no sound. I am taking both the audio and video from the avi file in System Mode. Any help would greatly be appreciated. PS Please don't recommend Virtual Dub as the audio extractor, I never was able to get the hang of that program.

Then use Gold Wave to extract your audio. Simply load the original video into the program, and save it as a wave file.-- Voilá!

  3. Why is it I was always able to use TMPG before with the avi as the source for the audio and video and audio came out fine? Am I missing a codec of some kind?

You may have changed one of your environmental settings. Of course, if you researched TMPGEnc on this site, you will find the TMPGEnc audio encoder is not the best one around.

  5. this wont help you at all, but go to settings tab/advanced/source range..

tick the display audio box, and scroll through your avi... if you dont see the little green bubbles on the green line then for some reason tmpg is not reading the audio section of the avi... I am having the same problem with some of my files

If you are encoding your audio through TMPGEnc then use an external encoder as Tommyknocker suggested, try tooLame, very good. This can be set up to work within TMPGEnc. Download tooLame from http://mikecheng.d2.net.au/layer2/toolame-02l.zip and set it up (very easy to do) through TMPGEnc's "Environmental Settings".

Once set up you can forget about it. Do everything as normal and TMPGEnc will open up tooLame when you start encoding and it will set it up for you without any extra intervention from you. What does this mean for you? Better audio quality, less audio problems, no extra work from you except the 2 minutes to download and set up.

If the sound is AC3 or VBR endoded MP3 then I prefer GoldWave like Tommyknocker suggested. Otherwise, Vdub is fast and efficient for extracting wav audio.
