@sapiendut
I haven't had any problems with my LG so far (not to say that you didn't)
So far my LG 4040B has been a killer drive.
@kenmo
Regardles of which brand of DVD burner to get, try getting one of the newer multi-format burners. DVD+-RW-RAM. Safest way to go, IMO. Besides, if you've read any of the 'DVD(whatever)R is soooo much better than that other cr@ppy media' threads then I'm sure you're aware of the positives and negatives (a little DVD humor here) of each media. Burn to suit your needs.

In Case You have'nt already bought one I'll throw in my 2 cents.I have about 130 DivX movies that I have made. I ripped them all with an Aopen 16xDVD/rom player using cladDVD .NET 3.4.0.All my movies turned out perfect.

I agree that the LG 4040 drive is very nice. I don't have any of the media problems, and it's working very well as a burner or DVD-ROM reader. However, I'm sure many people will agree with me that having a second DVD-ROM reader or a DVD-ROM/CDRW combo drive is a good idea since that would extend the laser life of DVD-burner.
In fact, I'm looking to get (based on the posts here) a Lite-On DVD-ROM/CDRW combo drive to supplement my LG 4040BI. That way I can rip DVD's and burned CD without having to use the LG :P -
Nec aint bad .. and it incorporates "accurate stream" technology.
No, I dont know what that is either or why it might be a good thing!

Bring this up from the dead...
Anyone know of a good ripping drive, that also reads DVD-RAM?
TIA! -
I have a Liteon DVD-ROM as well as a Pioneer sot load and I have found the Liteon to be the better of the two. The pioneer does a pretty good job and seems to be a bit quicker when it gets it right but it can be a bit selective on which discs it wants to read. The Liteon seems to read just about any disc in any condition and will average anywhere between 5X and 10X depending on the complexity of the encryption of the movie.
If in doubt, Google it. -
at least one of the toshiba 16x drives is RAM compatible. they have it listed on newegg.com I believe. but it seems like its always out of stock.
