  1. I am new to DVD Authoring/burning, but I have (with the help of this site) converted, ripped and burned a lot before.

    My problem is simple:
The DVD-R's have authored will not play on my standalone DVD-player.

I have managed to burn a number of DVD's before using the same DVD-R's and burning program (nero6) as I have used now.

It's logical to assume that it is the Author program fault, but I have tried 3 different programs (Pinnacle Studio 8, Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro and DVD-lab) and it still won't work....

I hope there is a easy solution.

    Any ideas?

  2. The two most common mistakes are.
1: Failure to put all the DVD compliant mpeg2 files into a VIDEO_TS folder then burn that folder.
2: Failure to finalize the disc.

  3. Are not the Authoring software suposed to fix that?

I forgot to say that it works nice on my PC, but NOT on my standalone DVD player.

    it could be 4 things

    media

    authoring program

    dvd player

    user mistake

now with Nero 6 are you burning udf 1.02 or udf 1.50 (1.02 is more compatible)?

what kind of dvd player do you have?

do they play in your pc?

  5. The media, burning program and the DVD player works (I have burned a copy of a DVD that plays nicely).

It is very unlikely that it is the authoring program, becouse I hav tried 3 different ones.

They all play on the PC.

I am burning using udf 1.02.

The DVD player is a Grundig Malaga SL1230, and it plays DVD-R's.

    This is from IfoEdit.com:

I don't know if this is the case here but correcting the DVD sectors helped me out several times.
Sometimes even after running DVDShrink I had to do that and definetely after creating or manipulating the navigation files.

I recommend DVDFab to correct DVD sectors.

    it could be 4 things

media (that particular media don't like your dvd player)

authoring program (Nero 6 is buggy)

dvd player (no matter what you do, some dvd player just won't play any burnt discs, even if they say they do)

user mistake (you might have accidently left out a step)

now with Nero 6 are you burning udf 1.02 or udf 1.50 (1.02 is more compatible)?

do a forum search on your dvd player to see that is the culprit

try to see if they play on a friend's dvd player

  8. Thank's for the help folkes.

I tried to correcting the DVD sectors using DVDFab, but it still won't work.

I konow that it is not the media, nor the player, nor the burning program. (I have noen a lot of testing)

I thing that is migth be the video scorce. It is a mpeg2 file (DVD-quality) made in Pinnacle Studio 8. I am thinking of recompressing it, but dont know what settings to use for audio and video.

I am starting to get a little angry, becouse I alredy have used 10 DVD-R's on nothing!

    Please help!

  9. You could just run your data made from Studio8 into DVDshrink (free program) which will fix any errors if there is any.

  10. I have just tried DVDshrink. I pressed "open Files". After the import prosess I selected "Full disk", and pressed "Backup!"

I burned the DVD with CopyToDVD, and it did not work.....

Do anyone have any other suggestions?

btw. I can not belive that creating a compitible DVD could be this difficult..

somehow you are missing what i am tellin you

the above 4 reasons i gave you are the only 4 reasons on why a dvd won't play in a standalone

just because your media , software and dvd player is working does not mean they are not the culprits

at least one of them is (maybe 2 or 3)

some media will not play in some dvd players (for instance some people might burn with princo's and it wouldn't play in their standalone, but when they use tdk, it did play)

maybe your dvd player is the problem (please go find somebody else with a dvd player and see if your discs will play in it)

i think bob w was telling to run dvdshrink in reauthor mode so it could fix the ifo structure

maybe copy to dvd is the culprit .download you a trial version of Gear Pro 6 and burn your dvd with that, as gear make 100% compliant dvd.

Gear will also let you know if your files are not dvd compliant

click on this to get Gear_Pro_Trial
