I just bought a Panasonic DMR-E50 recorder. So I record from a VHS tape (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and the DVD-R disc I used to record plays back great in the Panasonic. Now I put the same disc into any of the three drives I have on my computer and none of them are able to read the DVD-R disc and PowerDVD says "the disc is an unknown format" wtf. The disc also will not play in any stand alone DVD player, it only seems to play in the Panasonic recorder. Does the Panasonic recorders record in some alien format or what am I missing here?
Also anyone know how to put chapter marks while recording with the E50?

Make sure to close the DVD-R before trying to play the DVDR in any other player, takes 4 minutes to close. Remember all raiders movies will be on DVD this november. #4 will be released in the theaters next summer.

Well just finalizing the DVD-R in the Panasonic fixed my problem and now my copies play in my JVC, Sony, and Mintek DVD players just fine. I have been using CompUSA 1x DVD-R media which I get on-sale for as low as $0.70 each. So far I have made about twenty recordings and the Panasonic seems to love these CompUSA discs.
If you're having problems with a recorded disc playing in your player I would first check here for your DVD model and see if it will play DVD-R media. Also try the disc on a friends DVD player or take it to a store and try it there.
