What defined size should I use instead of 4472 and would variable mode be better then constant mode?

  2. I have mine set to 4450....I use the Variable. In theory. it should give me a better quality disk since it will lower the bitrate when it doesn't need as much and save that room for when it does (high action sequences).

  3. I use 4430, I use to use 4450 but ran into a problem where a program would not recopy the DVDR, since using 4430 no problem yet with re-copying the DVDR.

  4. I use constant mode regardless of how long the movies are, and it has never given me any video quality problems.

Anyway, you should try both modes and see it for yourself. It's a personal preference.

In... THEORY, variable would give you better quality.

But I seem to recall the authors of DVD2one poo-pooing their own variable mode. I've seen some HORRID variable mode transcodes in my time, so I believe them when they say that it isn't very good.
