Hi, I'm a newbie so please forgive me if this question has been answered before. I'm trying to find the best and cheapest media for backing up playstation 2 games and movies. I've heard from other forums that Verbatims are good, is this true?
I also was looking at the DVD media page comparing all the different DVD-R's. I noticed that some of the media codes are the same even though they are different brands. So shouldn't they all have the same pass/fail rate?

Verbatims are indeed good, even though I've seen drop in quality on the new 4X +R discs. It really depends on your PS2, whether it will play +R, -R, +RW, or -RW. I've used Ritek G04 -R discs with much success.
Some discs may have same media codes, and manufactured in the same plant, but you will realize that branded discs have higher quality due to more strict quality control (at a higher cost, of course)... -
I have used verbatim -r and Ritek -r(G03) withoout any problems. Also used some SOny and Fuji.

I was only able to get Verbatims and Fujis to work in my old PS2. Then I just spent the money and got some real set top DVD players.
Only 3 things are certain in life... Death, Taxes, and SPAM. Of these, only Death seems affordable!

I agree w/ rubberman.
Verbatim Datalifeplus and Ritek G03.
Mine plays dvd-r media. -
If you aren't looking to spend so much on your media, you can try http://meritline.com/dvdmedforson1.html Get the Meritline brand DVD-r, they are cheap, but you won't sacrafice a lot of quality. If you must buy your DVD-r media in a store, try Maxell OEM, I believe Office Depot carries them. These are also reasonably priced.

i wouldn't use cheap media on a ps2...it'll thrash your laser to bits....you dont wanna take chances on the shitty ps2 laser anyways....i use beall's...imo i think they load better then my verbatims(the ones i have are taiyo yudens)......plus backups play alot smoother burned at 2x rather than 1x

after I cleaned my laser, my dvd-r stopped working, I can't tell you if this is because of media quality yet, but I am going to try some verbatims.
