  2. Ulead DVD Workshop can do it, but what do you mean by "Full quality"? No Mpeg is full DV quality.

  3. I don't think the word "RIP" in your topic heading is used properly. I say this cause it may confuse people and you may not get as much help as you would like.

If you are realy looking for the best quality, you should think of capturing to AVI. I've done both and believe me THERE is a difference.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

I've done it with MyDVD 4.0, I took the created mpg file and then used DVD author. Only shortcoming is that the settings weren't flexible enough I believe it was "Best, Better, Good and VHS".

MyDVD will do menues and such..I just wanted to convert DV to Mpeg real-time. I had no pixelization or motion artifacts so I was pleased.

I am running a fast athlon, 1GB of ram, and a clean 120GB harddrive, so that may make a diff. I've also tried the Adaptec USB VideOh and it works ok...but it came packaged with MyDVD 4.0 to capture, so maybe the device isn't necessary if your dv can do pass-through.

  6. If you just want DV why not use the software that came with your DVD burner?

I never used that program so I can't comment. Are you refering to AVI1 and AVI2 as type-1 and type-2 AVI? If so choose type-2, it keeps the video and audio in seperate tracks and is suported by more software.

DV-AVI, whether it's type-1 or type-2, is a direct copy of the video from your DV-Cam. There is no quality loss in the transfer. If you edit the AVI and render back to AVI, then transfer back to DV-Cam, then the quality will be essentualy the same. If you convert to DVD, then you will loose a little in the compression. I create my dvds from MPEGs with CBR 8000 kbps and the quality is fantastic.
