    Then you must make selectable subtitles but it doesn't work on all dvdplayers. You can download svcd samples and try first.

  3. As Baldrick said first see if you standalone supports selectable subtitles. By old player (Apex AD600A) did NOT except SVCD subtitles, but did support CVD subtitles. So check both demo clips.

    If your standalone supports either format you can use WinSubMux to mux the subtitles into the MPEG2 stream without re-encoding (the above guide or try the ones at http://www.doom9.org). You can generate original subtitles using SubStation Alpha, a now dead program that was originally used to make fansubs (fan subtitles of anime films).
