  1. Hi!

First I have done a few dvds and lots of XviD reencode with the current setup I have (HW and SW). And all went smooth. Out of nowhere vdub stared crashing when doing a 2pass encode. I checked the overheating&stuff and all is OK. I changes vdub versions, XviD versions I still ger crashes. I Tried encoding on my laptop (fresh Win Xp install) and I get the same problem. I am totally in the dark about this issue. Help, anyone?

    Best regards,

    PIC

The file that's created to evaluate the first pass is messed up. This happened to me when I monkied around with changing it's name and location . I now keep that file with the original video so I can do repeated 2nd passes untill I like the results. As I recall, it needs an extension or VDUB crashes. Something like E:\capped\JYW\1pass.log is what I'd use to encode my capture of Junkyard wars. When you settup the 2ndpass, make sure it's pointing there and not at the default location (my original problem).

With practice, you can settup 20 videos for 2-pass batch encode, and go back and re-encode any video without haveing to re-do the 1st pass.

  4. What sort of spec is you machine.

I have a similare problem when trying to convert Vob files to Divx using two pass. It doesnt matter what software i use, it will still crash.

I have a AMD 2700+ with 512 ram running XP Home, and Geforce 4600TI Graphics card.

I dont think its an overheating issue.

Go over to doom9.org and download the altest vdubmod version(no links, they are a link blocker, and it's a good site), they have it posted on the opening page. Uninstall and delete your current version of vdub, you may just have a buggy version. Also, do you have the latest XviD/DivX codecs? XviD is notorisously fickly about beta builds.....and you often see comments about 'Green' with a bad XviD Codec. Current builds are very stable and shouldn't have the problem you describe.

  6. OK, I tried several vdub versions, a dozen xvid builds and the ONLY build that does not crash is Koepi's latest stable (XviD-04102002-1.exe). There must b something connected with b-frames (guessing) or what is the issue. I must tell you that I made about 3-4 dixy movies and lots of reencodes with the same HW and SW setup (using latest koepi's build) and it all worked fine. One day the problem was here .
